Your house now vs. the house(s) you grew up in
How does the house you live in now compare to the house or houses you grew up in as far as style, size, number of rooms/bathrooms?
Re: Your house now vs. the house(s) you grew up in
We moved a lot when I was growing up, so I can't really say I grew up in one house, but most of them were ranch style homes.
We only ever lived in one house that had more than one bathroom (and it was a half bath in my parents room). I don't know how my dad survived with my mom plus us 3 girls and only one bathroom most of the time!
We typically lived in homes with 3 bedrooms and I usually got my own room since I was the oldest:)
We never lived in a house that had a garage.
The house we live in now is a town home, but it's actually much bigger than any single family home I lived in growing up. We have 2 full baths, and 2 half baths, with 3 bedrooms. It seems like we've already maxed out the storage capacity here though! I don't know how my parents did it...it seems like the houses we grew up in were so tiny now that I think back.

we moved around a lot too, so I don't really have much to compare it to. I think most of our houses were 3BD/2BA, with the exception of our house in Oklahoma which was 4BD/2BA, and the hosue we lived in when we moved to AR which was only 2BD/1BA.
Our current house is 3BD/2BA, one story, and it reminds me a lot of an apartment we lived in when I was a teenager.
Our houses were always 3bed/1 bath (idk how 4 women went through years and years with 1 bathroom). There was 1 I consider the house I grew up in and it had a huge finished basement and a deck and a patio. We always had garages til my parents moved to their current house.
My apartment now is super small- 1 bed, 1 bath, 550 sq ft. No garage, but we do have a very nice deck.
Stand up for something you believe in.
:Blog:
The house I grew up in is 4 BR and 2 1/2 baths. My sister and I had our own rooms, but shared a bath. We had a garage, fenced backyard, and a small wooded area with a creek. My parents and sister still live there.
Our house is 3BR and 2 baths. It's 1000sqft smaller than my parents (not counting their basement), but we don't need that much space right now. We have a garage and 1/2 acre lot, but it's not fenced and is very open to the other people in our subdivision.
Style wise, our house is more modern than my parents, but my mom has always done a good job with decorating. Her style is just more traditional than mine. She likes burgundy and hunter green. I'm more of a slate blue and browns type.
H and I are definitely not in our forever home right now, more of our starter house. The house we are currently in is a typical "cape" style, and is very similar to the house I lived in until I was about 3 (my parents "starter" house). 3 bedrooms, one bath, kitchen, living room, and dining room.
H and I both spent the majority of our younger lives in larger colonials; older homes, with lots of details (hardwood flooring, built in cabinets, etc), 3-4 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, and 1-2 acres of land. We definitely aim for something like that in the future, when we can hopefully afford it.
I grew up, technically, in 2 different houses since my parents were divorced.
- My Moms house was 3 BR, 1 BA about 1100 sq. ft. It was a stationary trailer home with a basement. We lived there with my Grandparents until they passed away.
- My Dads house was 5 BR, 3 BA about 2700 sq ft. The house was massive and well layed out. Old farmhouse on a lot of land. My brother lives there now since my Dad passed. I ? that house. If my brother ever wants to move, DH & I want to move in.
- Out house now is 3 BR, 1 BA and 1300 sq ft. Cape Cod style
Well the big difference is that I pretty much never lived in a house growing up. Yep, I was a whole lotta poor! I did live in a small 2 bedroom and 1 bath home up until I was 3 when my parents got a divorce. I had a pull out bed under a bunk bed. After that I lived in a few different apartments. All of them were 2 bedroom and 1 bath. My 2 older sisters shared a room and I shared with my mom.
We are planning on buying a house outside of the city in a few months, but we are currently in a 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath home.
We were pretty poor too. Sometimes, I don't know how my parents did it! They never owned any of the homes we lived in...always rented.

We moved around a bunch, too. We lived in really crappy apartments until I was 8 when we moved into my grandparents' basement, which was finished to be an apartment for my mom, brother, and me. I consider that house to be the house I grew up in. Originally, it was a 4 bedroom / 2.5 bath SFH. After finishing the basement and another renovation upstairs, it was a 6 bedroom / 3.5 bath house. It had a 2 car garage and a huge back deck.
I freaking miss that house.
In high school after my mom remarried, we moved into a 4 bedroom / 3 bathroom house with no basement and a 1 car garage.
Currently I live in a 1 bedroom apartment. I hope to eventually buy a 4 bedroom / 2.5+ bath SFH with a basement and 2 car garage.
Us too! We lived in houses, apartments, duplexes, trailers...you name it.
The house I grew up in and the house I live in now are pretty similar. They are the same style (row style "patch" house), same square footage, but my mom's house is better laid out.
First floor: My house, is the living room, then the kitchen, then the bathroom/back porch. Mom's, is living room, dining room, kitchen/laundry room.
Second floor: My house is 2 bedrooms, one has no door. Mom's, is staircase then to the right of the staircase is her bedroom, then a hall to the left that leads to the bathroom/my old room. My sister's room is above the dining room, halfway down the hallway.
Both have crawlspace attics, and full basements. Our yards are similar as well.
The house I grew up in began similar to the house I currently live in -- 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, kitchen, living room. My parents built up when I was 5th grade to have 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, formal living room, dining room, kitchen, family room...
The only difference between the two starter houses is that our house now has a completely finished basement where we actually spend most of our time, and it doubles the living space of our small house. My parents were never able to finish off their basement because of the water table in their part of town. Yay for living on top of a hill, I say!
