Where to go for a long weekend in Dec?

There are a few holidays here in Spain at the begining of December and are thinking about going somewhere over the weekend.  We would have 4 days, 5 nights...I am thinking we might even be able to visit 2 cities.  I want to go somewhere not too cold, 50's during the day.

Place we are throwing around....Krakow, Athens, Venice, Florence, Berlin, Munich...

Another suggestions?

  • I vote for Athens or Venice or Florence. The temperature would be pretty good there. We enjoyed Athens even in February!

It's really easy to get around Italy by train, you could do Venice and Verona. Or you do Florence, and Pisa and Sienna.

  • Have you considered Morocco? DH and I did a day trip from South of Spain to Tangier, Morocco on our honeymoon. It was pretty cool there and I bet its warm year round. The beach resorts looked really nice.

I had thought of that, but I wasn't sure if that was too much time in Marrekesh?  We were thinking Thursday-Sunday.

Gosh...all the choices it is overwhelming!

  • I second Morocco if your goal is to sight-see and not just hang out relaxing.

Rome and Florence are nice in December, too.

If hanging out and relaxing is your thing, I've been to both Canary Islands and Madeira during Spain's early December "puente" and they were lovely.

I have no idea what the weather is like there that time of year, but I also really liked Croatia and would love to go back. I took a ferry to Dubrovnik from Italy for a weekend a few years ago and wish I had budgeted more time to see more of Croatia,

I'd personally go to Berlin/Prague or Prague/Vienna or Vienna/Budapest, but I think they'll al be colder than you'd like so I'd go to Italy.

Great choice (and could be interesting depending on how this whole bailout/debt crisis shakes out). I know some people on the Travel board have said Athens only needs 2-3 days, but I spent 8 or 9 days there in 2004 and absolutely loved it. I did two day trips, one to Delphi (which I'd very much recommend) and to the temple of Poseidon at Sounion, which everyone else in my group (three others) really enjoyed.

You'll have a great time and there is plenty to do.

  • Leave Berlin for the spring or fall. We went in February and I thought I was going to freeze to death and I had just gotten back from visiting my family in Wisconsin so I was just in the cold.

     Hope you enjoy Athens!
