Squadron Christmas party ideas

Next week we will be having a family readiness meeting.  One of the main topics will be the squadron's christmas party.

Last year's party was kinda boring, IMO.  They had a few kiddie activities, such as face painting, moon jump, and Santa handed out small gifts.  For the adults they had free 10 minute massages from a local rehab office and several gaming stations set up.  We ate, got a massage and left.

This year will be different for us since we will have a 1 month old.  (I'm still not sure if I'll even want to take the baby out.)  But I do want to offer up some ideas.

So what I want to know is, what did/didn't y'all like from the Christmas parties y'all have attended?  Anything stand out that really went over well?

I've only been to that one Christmas party, so I don't have anything to compare it to.  Thats why I'm coming to y'all.  Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Squadron Christmas party ideas

  • I have not really attended company Christmas parties since like high school, so I dont really have a lot of advice

But... I think they should bring back the massages again! That sounds awesome

  • I didn't like that it was an explicitly religious event where attendance is pretty much mandated. Not very inclusive.

I hope they bring that back too.  I'm sure that was a nice little break for the parents.

  • DH's squadron Christmas party is adults only, sort of. We trade off w/ another squadron, they watch our kiddos for our Christmas party and we do the same for them. The kids were in two rooms with age appropriate activities for them to do, and then they ended with a movie, to help the kids wind down before the parents came to get them.

The adults party was a buffet dinner, raffles/door prizes and random games (purse search, scavenger hunt, tacky sweater contest), and a dance floor. It was actually a fairly laid back thing, the booster club put it all together in a maintence bay, and it was a nice chance for us to just get caught up and visit.

  • Our Christmas party is pretty much for kids.  We have Santa giving out gift bags, face painting, a magician who also teaches the kids things about animals and science, and a tone of other kid activities.  We also have food and desserts.  As a BTN, they don't do anything for adults because we have found that adults tend to not show up for those things.  We leave adult parties to be planned at the squad or plattoon level (think 12-40 people).

Agreed.  It's a bit frustrating when you are not Christian...  And makes you feel really out of place.  I was hoping to avoid this year's Christmas party, as I've got a December work trip, but DH has an FX that week, so they won't be holding it while I'm gone...

  • At my work Christmas party we always did a white elephant gift exchange. It really brought the group together and was guaranteed for a few laughs.  It is even better when you don't put who the gift is from and people try to guess.
