Missing baby in KC

Has everyone see the story about the missing 10 month old that was taken from her crib?

What a sad story....

My thoughts:

1.  How did the person know the baby was in that room?

2.  How did the person know they had a baby?

3.  How did they know to come when dad wasn't home and at work?

Re: Missing baby in KC

  • I've heard about it, but am not real familiar with the story.  Did they break in through the window?  The whole idea freaks me out.  I can't imagine going to my room and finding my baby missing.
  • I emailed my sister about it to see what they've been saying about it on the local news down there..haven't heard back from her yet though.
  • This is what I dont understand... you've got to assume there was a baby monitor.  How in the heck did the mom not wake up and hear something?  The breaking in, getting the baby up (you'd assume she'd cry?)... it's so strange. But by all accounts, it seems the parents are completely innocent.

So sad.  I cant stop thinking about it. :(

  • I'm confused.  Are they considering the mom at all?  The story sounds like the parents aren't ruled out but aren't suspicious...  The whole thing is so sad.

I'm a total paranoid mom.  I don't leave the girls' windows open at night simply because I am fearful of someone coming in--ridiculous, I am sure, considering they are on the second floor of our house.

  • It says she's being questioned and has been 100% cooperative thus far.  I know this sounds rediculous, but if you look at her pictures you can tell even by the way she's dressed that her mom probably adores her.  And the detailed description they gave police - "bug bite behind her left ear, beauty mark on leg" and that she's got a cold.. :(  It would just be surprising if the parents are involved, I think.

  • jealous ex girlfriend or ex wife of baby's dad?
  • This is one of those situations where, while you want them to be found ASAP, you hope that for the time being they are just with some crazy who really wants a baby.. and not some sicko who will hurt her. :(

No, I can see that too.  The whole situation is creepy and gets more sad as time goes on.  I know the time period for finding abducted kids successfully isn't very long.

That was my thought too.  And that dad went into check on her when he got home from his shift.  Shiitty parents don't do that.

The whole thing makes my stomach churn.

  • I'm guess there is either more to the story - crazy ex or family member in the picture; or someone has just been watching their house. With all the weird people out there it wouldn't be hard for someone to watch you for a few days to figure out your work schedule. And if they have curtains open they can easily see at night which room a baby is in. If the parents have nothing to do with it then it really is a sad story.
  • They aren't saying anything more here than what has already been posted. The 11:30 news reported from the house with no updates. I do know that they were talking about collection of scent evidence today. There is also a news conference scheduled for 2pm...tight lipped at the moment though. If you go to www.kmbc.com they have a live blog with lots of information.

  • I cannot even imagine - I started crying while I read the story, what a completely terrifying thing to be going through.  I immediately thought of child trafficking for some reason (it happens all over the place) and I hope she is brought back home safely very soon.  It scares me that there is no description of the abductor, a car, or anything - hopefully the detailed descriptions of the baby will help.

Well someone in their neighborhood is coming forward sayign they saw someone walking down the street with a baby in a diaper.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that it's been cold at night in KC, like it has here.  Would you not call the police if you saw some random person walking down the street WITH A BABY IN ONLY A DIAPER in the middle of the night!?!  Am I the only one who would???

    I thought that too.

  • However, the mom gave a description of the clothing she was wearing. (purple pants?)   So if this man walking with a baby in a diaper, where is the outfit the baby was sleeping in?   Also, why would you leave your window open in a house where you can easily climb in?

I would call the police but I am hyper like that... 441-6000 is the non emergency line.    I have it memorized.

  • Are mom and dad married?   Are the other kids in the house from the man living there?  If not, have the police talked to the other kids dads?   I can't stop thinking about this poor baby.

I thought they said she was wearing clothes, but maybe I misread.

Regardless, most people choose not to get involved.  Many are quick to say what they (think they) would do, but most do nothing when faced with a certain scenario.  (The show "What Would You Do?" is based upon this psych phenomenon, the "bystander effect.")  Note:  This is not directed at you, or anyone in this post saying they would call, I'm just sayin' many do not and it's not uncommon.

Finally, I also wonder if dude who said he saw the man really did see the man or if he/his wife is/are being tragedy whores.  Hate to think that, of course, but it's also something that happens often.

    Keep me updated, peeps!

  • This is seriously my worst nightmare. I have some major paranoia issues since becoming a mom...check my alarm, check my doors, etc over & over. I was in NY for business this week and when I heard the national news story I figured it was in NY. I couldn't believe it was in KC. I'm sick over this.

On another note - interesting that the baby's name is Lisa....that hasn't been a popular baby name since the late 70s

  • Did you guys see the parents on the Today Show this morning?  The mom revealed she took a lie detector test and failed.  Ugggh, they did it.  This was the first time I had seen them on TV, they looked sketchy as hell.  Makes me sick.

Agreed. I didn't hear what they were saying though because I was trying to get my kid ready for school pictures. I did hear later that they are no longer cooperating with officials. Nice. Ick!

  • I thought they did it from the beginning. Nothing adds up.

  • Just the fact that the dad looked completely emotionless stuck out to me.

And how would an intruder know there was 3 cell phones? Why didn't the dad take his cell phone to work with him that night?
