Verizon phone recs?

So, um, any phone recommendations for Verizon?  Given the option tonight after DS's bath between dropping him (and falling myself) or dropping the phone when I slipped on a puddle I missed wiping up (gotta love crazy toddler splashing during bathtime), the BlackBerry went... and unfortunately for the BB, it went straight into the still-draining tub. On the upside, at least I've been due for an upgrade since July!

Re: Verizon phone recs?

  • DH and I happily ditched our Blackberries and got DROID X2's. We love them. Its a nice big screen compared to the BB and even compared to an iPhone.

  • Bummer about your phone's fate.  I'm looking forward to recommendations too.  I really want a smart phone but I'm not sure how to compare and I want it to have good call quality.

  • I love my iphone through Verizon. The newest iphone model is coming out next week (I think - Apple just announced it yesterday but I can't remember the date it will be available), but I have the iphone 4 and its been great.

  • I love my iphone. DH has a droid x and the clearness of the screen is no where near as nice as the iphone. When I got my iphone I asked the guy which was better and he said it was all an opinion of the user. Some people like the sleekness of the iphone, but others said the droid was more user friendly. Personally, I find the iphone way more user friendly than the droid.

  • If you are techie, I recommend the Droid phones but if you aren't than I recommend iphones.  I think iphones are kind of "idiot-proof" phones.  I have too many people complain to me that the Droids don't work and its usually because they aren't "techie" enough to work them.

  • I have a Droid 2 and so does DH and we really like them! I like having a slide out keyboard, which obviously an iphone doesn't have. (You can also type on the touch screen as well. We really love them. I'm not a techie per say, and I didn't find it particularly difficult to operate my droid.

  • Stacey, it was, at least, a very dramatic end - DS and I seriously watched it spiraling through the air, destined for the tub, and I couldn't do a thing about it (as DH put it, it was like one of those movie scenes).  Pretty funny in retrospect, since DS and I are both fine!

I think I'm leaning iPhone - I'm a self-admitted Apple nerd and have been drooling over it for years.  My only issue is that DH and my BFF both have BBs, and I use BBM w/ them constantly... so I don't know.  We'll see how generous DH is feeling this afternoon when it comes to decision time, though. ;)

  • I got the Droid Incredible 2 in July and I love it. I'm not at techie and have had no problems with it and was able to figure out the OS really quickly. It isn't 4G (but we don't have it where I live yet anyway) but it had a bigger screen than the iPhone and I ordered it from Amazonwireless for half the price Verizon wanted (it was new in box, not refurbished).

  • The new iPhone coming out next week is what I would get. There are so many awesome features and I really like the size. I have the iPhone 4 through Verizon now and I love it!

I have an iphone question, I guess thinking about the new 4S.  Unless you are storing a lot of music or videos on it, do you find that you need more than the 16 GB version?  I mainly just want a phone for internet usage, calls, taking pictures, etc.

  • I think you'd be fine with the 16gb. I do mainly those things with mine and it's never been an issue.

  • NDM - I wish I could wait, but I have no cell phone at all, so looks like I'm out of luck. :(
  • That's difficult to have to make a decision so quickly, Ash.

Does anyone have a Droid Bionic?  I was reading some comparisons of that and iphone and it gets pretty good reviews.

  • Eh... I think I'm basically between an iPhone and one of the Blackberry models.  I've been lusting after the iPhone for years, so that's been on my radar for a while. :)

Do you have any old phones laying around the house (or any friends or family- as long as it's verizon)? You could have an old phone activated for the week until the new iphone comes out.  That's what I would do because if not you'll pay $200 for the iphone4 which will become $99 next week when the iphone4S comes out for $200.

I have the standard 8GB (I think) for the iphone 4 and have no problems.  I have almost 800 pictures and a couple of videos.... I don't have my full itunes loaded but I have a ton of songs and am happy with it.

Thank you!  I'll have to see them in the store to compare, the Bionic is a fair amount larger than the iphone.
