I'm trying to be good and not post a bunch of baby related posts. But I just wanted to share. So, I'm 25% of the way cooked today! YAHOO for 10 weeks down and 30 more to go.
Highlights thus far:
- Telling our parents and seeing my dad just about cry from it. And then having to tell my sister over the phone that the next time she sees me I'll be a mom (she moved to Korea in July and won't be back in the states until August).
- We (meaning I) already bought our stroller and infant car seat since it was on sale. It's all assembled and ready to go.
- The three guys in my department know. So far they are calling the baby "Alan Jr." and ask how he is doing every day. Goodness we hope it's a boy!
- We're currently working on the baby room decor. We have this (now determined to be ugly) dark green carpet that we picked out when we built the house and the room is the darkest one in the house in the first place. So it's definitely been a challenge!
Re: 25% Cooked
And my DH thought I was crazy for buying a stroller at 20 weeks pregnant!
Be careful not to buy too much stuff early or there won't be anything left for people to give you at your baby shower.
OMG Susie! I must have missed the original post. HUGE CONGRATS! I know you have been dreaming about this for a while!
I am SO happy for you!
We are 100% team green. I told DH before TTC that there was no way in hell I want to find out. Our file is already tagged as such. But, all that being said, 80% of my DH's family is male. So we're pretty sure we'll have a boy.
That's the only "big" that we're buying. It's the Britax B-Ready and they are running their "buy the stroller and get X, Y, or Z free". One of the free choices was the infant car seat, which goes for $180. I also get $100 for every trimester from my health insurance company for talking to a nurse once per trimester. So we basically got the package for 50% off. I didn't want to stick someone else with paying that much more. And I'm a sucker for savings.
Lord knows there is PLENTY of other stuff that we'll need. LOL!
Thank you! I feel like a late comer to the '07ers with kids party, but am feeling very lucky and blessed. Now to stop feeling crap and to start actually LOOKING pregnant. Two weeks to go until our 12 week appointment!
Aww,yay! I love reading stuff like this
I have a couple infant clothes that I picked up during Carter's huge sale, but I got them as any gender so I could also use them as gifts. So, I have a set of 5 infant white onesies, one slipper foot PJ thingy (too cute not to get), and then I also have two Halo sleep sacks that I got from Totsy for stupid cheap. But that's it. I know the grandmothers will go nuts, especially if it winds up being a girl.
It will be interesting to see how the room decor works out. Right now I'm leaning towards chocolate brown for the walls with white furniture and accents. We'll add more gender specific color accents once the kiddo comes (in 30ish weeks).
Glad I could help! I hope your day gets less stressful. :-)
Well, as you saw we collected a lot in just the few days we were home before you got there (gender specific) I definitely liked Green b/c then I could add pink or blue and they look good. Another combo I was going to do was a light brown and then add blue/green for boy or pink for a girl. I wasn't sold on white furniture when FIL got the crib, but now I love it and wouldn't have it any other way!
Like Kristy, we have gray walls and white trim/doors in the nursery. It worked when it was DH's office and we planned it to be the nursery. I had initially thought I was going to do an arctic theme, so gray would have worked with blue whales, purple penguins, and light green polar bears, but we ended up with a 50's retro style. We did dark & medium wood furniture, coral-red, med green, and light blue atomic random designs on the wall, an ugly rug that I hate now, a mod wall light, and a Felix the Cat wall clock. Bumper was green and I got fun plastic woven baskets in multi blue and multi green for the built in shelf. The chair fabric we had to get in beige- blech- but I really wanted a soft green or blue.
Honestly I don't even really notice the decor with all his junk all over the place! I mean, I still like our details- especially the walls and clock- but unless you were thinking of going whole hog on mega pink or blue once little one arrives, you can keep it generic for years.
If we have a girl, my moms have already made it know that they are going to go nuts. Especially my MIL. My DH is on only child and she never got to do the girl thing. So I think our house would wind up looking like a girl threw up everywhere (pink, purple, etc.).
