Re: Clicky- Expensive gifts from Parents
Yes - my parents have gifted me plane tickets on occasion. That's the only ones I can say cost over $400.
My parents are known to take me shopping, etc. when I'm around because they feel they need to make things even between me and my brothers who they see all the time.

omg I'm stupid. darn! My first ruined poll
I said never because well, my parents didn't give us expensive things growing up. I don't feel bad or resent them for this because a) we weren't rich and b) I remember being happy and appreciating everything.
BUT I totally forgot that my parents gave me my car for my 21st birthday. Lots of reasons behind this that make it 'different' from a 16yo kid getting a brand new car, but it was very generous and H and I wouldn't have a car otherwise, lol.

my parents bought me a brand new car for my 16th birthday.
They are also buying Caleb's bedroom set (crib, dresser, changing table) and stroller/car seat.

Not as much as I've gotten older, but when I was younger I got 2 brand new cars from my parents (I totaled one and then they got me another), a house, and some cash here and there.
Now, for most occasions, it's $200 cash for me and H.

My parents bought my first laptop that was around $600. Still have it, but it's become more of a desktop since it's about 5 years old now...They've also bought me plane tickets on more than one occasion. That's all I can think of right now...

oh yeah, my parents also bought me a laptop....but i don't consider these "gifts"....they bought it so i could use it for school...it wasn't "presented" to me or anything...it was just "hey, you're in college, do you think you'll need a laptop?"

If my parents spent over $100 on regular occasions for us that was lots! With our wedding they may have spent more than $400 but if they did it wasn't much more than $500.
After all they have 11 kids that they need to give gifts too, and they aren't loaded by any means.

My parents express their love through money and money-based gifts. It's rare that it's something any of us (my siblings and I) want or need, but if we refuse, it leads to cold shouldering and the silent treatment for sometimes over a year. So I get that they're gifts. It's just sometimes hard to think of them as such and not like a mandatory noose around our necks.
High end "gifts": A car, the down payment for my first house (as well as funds from a stock portfolio my dad started for me in my name when I was a baby for things like buying a new house :P), the wedding, my college education, the maximum yearly gift amount every year, my first laptop, a karaoke machine, and a pair of sapphire-diamond earrings last year.
can i be adopted?

Haha. If you want to deal with my parents. Sure. XD DH had no idea what it was really like until he 'officially' joined our family. Now, I think he's slowly wondering how I'm not more effed up in the head. :P
