Clicky: Couches

We're moving and I would like to eventually buy new couches for the family room. I'd also like them to be kid proof so I'm thinking this leather one: link. I have a beige microfiber couch now that's more my style and I'm having a hard time deciding if I even like leather couches. Bonus points if you can share you kid friendly couch!

  • Leather furniture screams "bachelor pad" to me ... I guess beige isn't as bad as red or black, but I'm still not a huge fan. I don't know what other kid-proof options there are.

  • I think rich dark(er) brown tends to look nice, but i'm not a big fan of the couch you posted (too many little sections).  Be sure to look into the repair (like, are individual cushions or sections of cushions replaceable) in case a tear occurs.

  • haven't voted yet, but I'll probably say "yes" because it's the closest thing to "I just don't like them for some reason".  Some people really like them and think they are great for kids, other people don't.  I think this falls under the category of things like black licorice.
  • Oh and as far as kid friendly - I thought microfiber was pretty kid friendly. They're easy to just wipe down.

We've had a large black microfiber couch for 5 years and my 11 year old step daughter has spilled a ton of crap on it and it always cleans right up.

I think puffy leather couches are ugly, the one that you posted? I can handle that. My main thing is that I don't think they're that comfortable.

Why can't you do a treated microfiber? We have this couch and it's really good at repelling stains. Everything spilled on it beads right off and is really easy to clean.

  • UWHusky-Your couch is way more my style and really similar to what we have now. I've never really had a problem getting stains out-pen marks, pasta sauce. I don't know why I'm picturing little kids splilling juice and puking on my beige couch! Maybe a darker microfiber. My decor is mostly beachy aquas, blues, tropical. A brown leather couch doesn't really give off that vibe. Hmm...

    Thanks for you input all!

  • Trim leather couches can be nice if they're red or dark brown and smooth "club-chair" look, imho and personal taste. (Like this) That one you linked is started to get into the too puffy stage (but don't get one with big poofie back sections, those slowly sink/stretch to be saggy).

But agree with PP - I don't think they're that comfortable. They're cold in the winter, and you stick to them (like crazy in sweaty summer). I've always understood most microfiber to be considered one of the most kid-friendly fabrics. My sister has had a light beige microfiber sectional since before my 5.5 y-o nephew was born. His brother is turning 4 this month and despite two VERY active young boys, still looks good.

  • I don't like leather couches. DH has one though. Whenever we get a new couch I don't want to get leather, but DH does.
