So, with this new iPhone coming out, I have a Q

Saw on Verizon's website that the 'old' iPhone 4 is now $99 since the new one comes out in a week or so...but if you are not elligible for an upgrade yet, you can't get that old one for $99, right?  I have mine, but would like to get DH one.

I really think that is the stupiest rule if that's the case...what does it matter to them if you are a new customer or not?  They are going to make you sign another 2 yr contract regardless when you do upgrade, so why not just let whoever wants it have it...  :(  Why don't then want my $99 now instead of waiting til March!  :)

Re: So, with this new iPhone coming out, I have a Q

  • Are any of the phones on your acct elligible for an upgrade. If one phone is he can use that to get it... not sure if that helps or not?! =)

and i agree... i think its just dumb!

  • The only thing is the $99 one is only 8GB.  They were originally selling 16GB & 32GB.  I agree though that it's stupid you can't get that price until it's up.

  • I took his upgrade to get my phone in June, so my line technically is the first one eligible, and that isn't until March.  I'd pay the $149 to get the 16G, but I'm not paying $599!  That's insane.

  • The reason you can't get that price is because you got a deal on your phone when you got it. They are selling the phones for way under cost to get new business or to get you to re-up your contract and lock you in with them. It's a perk to get them at that cost.  Hence why if you leave your cell company and your contract isn't expired you must pay a fee, that fee essentially covers the cost of the phone that you got on the cheap.
  • I just switched to Sprint (Thanks E!) and was going to wait because they are getting the Iphone also but I decided that honestly, it just "iPhone hype". I got the Evo and love it along with all the apps (TONS are free!). Plus, I'm sure i would be paying a crapload for the new iPhone anyway and it didn't really interest me. DH and I already paid out $300 for new phones and another $100 to leave Verizon since his contract isn't up yet. I love(d) my iTouch so really wanted the new iPhone but not for the price i'm sure they'll rape you to get it.
