my golden days may be waning

So, I've been waiting for this to hit the news cycle before I shared, but I think the golden days at my office are waning.  :-(  Due to budget and political battles, it looks like my agency is about to go through some serious changes in the work we do and the staff we have.  Week after next, we're expecting news about layoffs and furlough days.  Given how much I love my job and my coworkers, I'm feeling this huge impending sense of loss.  I know this is a bad news week for many, but any positive thoughts for my coworkers and me would be appreciated!  I know we're going to lose some incredibly talented and smart people and am just hoping the numbers are smaller than I'm expecting.  And that I'm staying.  Since MH's still in school full-time and in the midst of recruiting for his first post-grad school job, I'd like to keep our job search to one person!  I'm stressed and frustrated enough already!

On the plus side, my boss has been detailed to a very high-profile congressional committee through the end of the year and he's relying on his staff to help him with his work (yes, Daniele and kclouts, it is the committee you are thinking of).  It's nice to think that with all the craziness, I'm doing my tiny bit to get things back on track.

  • It cannot be fun being in DC right now.  I hope the cuts are light and that your department is able to make things work!

  • This is horrible news.  I was watching the national news the other night and there was a story about female baby boomers and their pensions and 401k plans (or lack thereof really).  I was wondering if you were one of the researchers that provided the stats.

I am keeping all fingers and toes crossed for you!

  • Oh wow- that is scary stuff, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that everything works out OK for you, and the cuts are minimal. Hang in there!

  • How stressful for you! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Lots of good thoughts and juju coming your way!
  • I am sending gobs of positive juju your way! How stressful for you and everyone in your office!
