So, I was home in the states last weekend for my sister's bridal shower. It was great ![]()
I decided to pop in to see my OBGYN the day I left and get a refill on my BC pills. Right now I have two of my regular packs left, and two "emergency" random sample packs my doctor gave me last time just in case.
She refilled me for 6 months, but the pharmacy is being a PIA. First they said they did not have it and would have to order it. Then, it would not be ready before I had to leave - no worries my parents can pick it up for me. THEN, they called saying the kind I wanted (generic) was not available so they will call my Doctor to see if I can have the real version.
Well, my current health plan has not prescrip coverage, so the regular brand name kind is $600 instead of $180. I am NOT paying that much. So now the pharmacy called again and I have to call my doctor to get another name of something else I can take in the generic version. It's turning into such a FIASCO!
Anyone else have this experience - something simple turns into a PIA very quickly just bc you're not at home in the states to deal with it yourself?!?!
- ok I'm done -
Re: uuugh vent
Can they fill it at a different pharmacy or did they discontinue the generic pill? If it's not discontinued, just call a different pharmacy.
I completely understand the hassle of this--I used to have to pay extra for the name brand because the generic made me spot. I loved Yasmin when I was on the pill--not on anything now though.
ETA: Glad you had a great time at home!
I had a similar getting BC when I went to Spain. My pharmacy didn't want to give me so many refills in one time (they just couldn't understand that I couldn't come back every month to get a new one...). I ended up going to a pharmacy in Spain with a pack of the BC I took, and they matched the ingredients etc. to give me a BC that was the closest to mine and that worked perfectly. Plus it was a whole lot cheaper. I never bought BC pills in the US after that.
I never understood why the US makes it so difficult to get BC. In every other country I've been to, you can go to your local pharmacy and ask for some, no prescription required.
Update: I called my Doctor's office and asked them to represcribe something else that is similar. I really hope it will work this time. There's no reason CVS cannot get me what I need!
If not, then I might just give up and try asking for BC at a pharmacy in Belgium. We've been here almost 3 years and I always have handled it at home over christmas visits, never tried to get it here. If it's as simple as Spain - then why not? It's probably cheaper too. It's about $30 a pack at home with no prescrip coverage (for generic off brands).
