  • Hi! We're doing great over here -- thanks for asking!

Our little guy eats constantly (he's gained a full 2 pounds in his first 4 weeks!) and is really alert, so I don't do much more than hang out with him these days. That works out well, though, since I'm sort of obsessed with him anyway :). Jake has his AMs and PMs a bit mixed up and nursing has been zero fun, but those are both improving and everything else is lovely, so life is good.

How are (all of) you? I've lurked a little here and there, but feel very behind with MN happenings.
  • Ash! The slideshow of your birth photos made me all teary. You and your H looked so genuinely happy!

Thanks so much! I'm impressed that you read the whole thing haha--I had such a hard time cutting it down.

I probably should have posted some of those pictures on MN but oh well. For anyone who is interested, we hired a birth photographer and posted a pretty little video slideshow here: http://ash-and-matt.blogspot.com/2011/10/jakes-birth.html

    It reads very quickly. Smile

Hanging in there with nursing...it gets much better after 6 weeks.  It seems to finally click for the baby and mom starts to feel like a human being again.

If Jake is having issues sorting out night and day, set up a bedtime routine for night and do it every night.  It's been our experience that the routine makes all the difference.  That's all my unsolicited advice.

I'll take it! Especially the nursing encouragement. He's a little barracuda baby and it's been painful. The pain has been getting better, but slowly. We've been working on the bedtime routine thing and I think it's helping. Last night, he slept from 10 until 6:30, minus his typical 1-3 a.m. party time. For some reason, that's when he thinks it's most fun to stare at mom and smile and be all sorts of cute. I try to tell him that daytime is play time and nighttime is sleep time, but he doesn't quite believe me yet.

  • I've read it like 3 times :)  That slideshow is so beautiful!

    He's perfect!

I second SgtM's advice. A bedtime routine should make a huge difference. We also made it a house rule to not talk to S after bedtime. Diaper changes and feedings in the night were done with a minimum of eye contact and talking to try to keep him drowsy and not stimulate him.

I also second her encouragement with the nursing. It does get better, you are almost over the hump!! Also, if you have persistent issues the ladies on the BFing board on TB are really knowledgeable (sp?) and helpful.

This is both terrifying to me and hilarious! I loved the slideshow!!

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • Oh that was just beautiful! I cried, which I do a lot of these days. I'm so happy for you guys!
