Do you believe in aliens or life on other planets?

I remember watching an episode of Unsolved Mysteries as a kid about UFO abductions and it scaring the sh*t out of me. Do you think there is life on other planets? What do you think of Roswell?

Re: Do you believe in aliens or life on other planets?

  • I believe there is possibly life on other planets, but like microbes.  I don't believe that there are more advanced life forms from other planets, though. I guess I'll believe it when I see it?

I believe the Air Force that the crash at Roswell was debris from a high altitude balloon.

  • I would prefer not to but I guess I sort of do by default. My father, who is the most rational human being I have ever known, will put his hand on a bible and swear to you that he saw a UFO when he was out sledding with his younger brother as a child. And he's never wavered in his description or his conviction, once. So I'd rather NOT believe but I hate to not believe my father who has really never lied to me before.
  • I hope not and if there is life on other planets I want it to stay put.

I didnt think E.T. was cute. It actually gave me nightmares.

  • I do believe in them...I try not to think about it otherwise I freak myself out.  Same goes with ghosts/spirits.

A couple weeks ago H saw an orange light in the sky that came really close to our house and came upstairs to tell me to look at it.  It was really bright and zigzagging across the sky.  It freaked us out.  Turns out it was a chinese lantern.  :)

dulce, have you seen The Fourth Kind?  That movie is super creepy.

No. I try to avoid scary movies.

  • I believe.

Emily, a few weeks ago I saw a strange light in the sky, it also turned out to be a Chinese lantern. How funny.

My H and his ex-gf saw a ufo one night. H still gets chills whenever he talks about it.

  • Yes I'm sure it's entirely possible. Maybe another civilisation exists but is less/equally advanced or more advanced and therefore want nothing to do with us. I wouldn't blame them not responding to our cosmic emails.

gotcha!  I usually get really scared by them like to the point I'm afraid to leave the room by myself, but I always end up watching anyway since H likes them.

That's my view too. I find it quite unlikely for this to be the only planet to support some sort of life.

  • My belief about aliens is the same as my belief about the Loch Ness Monster and Big Foot. I believe that there are far more things in the Universe than we have or ever will discover - even on our own planet and I think it would be really arrogant and ignorant to categorically state these things do not exist. So essentially, until it is proven to me beyond a doubt that such things do NOT exist I believe in the POSSIBILITY that they do.

As for Roswell, I don't believe it was a weather balloon. I'm not sure it was an alien ship though. I really would like to know for sure one way or the other.

  • I can't watch ET either but that has more to do with being shown only the part where he's trying to escape and is dying at a very young age... traumatic.

This wasn't a light, this was a genuine flying saucer type thing my dad describes. They were sledding on a hill in super rural Illinois (so you know, the only hill for miles)  and he said they were climbing back up the hill and they got to the top and on the other side there was something hovering over the field and then all of a sudden it just shot straight up into the sky and then was gone. His best friend saw it, too. He's very big into Star Trek and stuff like that. I grew up going to see every Star Trek movie as it came out in the theater and watching every new series on tv. I'm a little geeky as a result.

Add me to this crowd. I believe there's life out there, or there will be. Part of me kind of hopes Star Trek is real--at least parts of it, one day. Well, if you didn't already know it, I'm a massive dork.

DH and I had a conversation about whether Zefram would make a good kid name. Heehee.

  • I believe in life elsewhere, why wouldn't there be? Thinking of what is out there, with other planets and life freaks me out though.

DH and his parents talk about having seen an UFO when they were living Patagonia. His mother is one of the most reasonable, sane people I know and she claims to have seen it. DH was small, but remembers it well. They live in a very remote area of Patagonia, their nearest neighbors were a mile away and the nearest town was 10 miles (very small village). They were driving back from the village one night and claimed to have been "followed" by a low flying light/aircraft. The car died for a second and the light got closer but the car started again and his dad floored it. The light/aircraft went away and they never saw it again.

Ex BF's family claimed to have seen something too, near our hometown, but they're all ex drug addicts so I'm not believing them.

As for Roswell...I think something strange happened there, but I'm not sure what. I don't like how "hush-hush" the US gov't is about things.

  • Given the sheer size of the universe I figure there probably is some other life out there somewhere. But I don't think it's anything we'll ever find or have proof of. I certainly don't believe aliens have visited earth or abducted people.

    Ditto this.
