How to clean microfiber couch?

I looked on the tag and there were no cleaning instructions, just says 100% polyester. Any idea on how to clean? Its pretty dirty from our dogs getting on it and there are some spots. Is it safe to just soap and water? Or something stronger? TIA!

Re: How to clean microfiber couch?

  • Are the covers removable?  If they're removable you can just throw them in the wash (I do delicate cycle and no dryer but I'm sure that I'm a little too careful with it).  If they don't come off use a carpet shampooer with the attachment.  I have 1 couch that has removable and 1 that doesn't.  I hate shampooing it, it's such a big job (and I'm sure that I miss quite a bit) but it's so nice to see all of that grime in the shampooer.
  • I've used a carpet shampooer on ours, it seems to work well.  Definitely factor in drying time, maybe do it before you are leaving the house for a while or won't be using that room.

  • I use the Bissel Little Green Machine.  I love seeing all the brown water that it picks up as it cleans up all the dirt.  It must also be doing a good job of picking up the dog fur because our little niece who gets all sniffly from all the dog fur can now sit on our clean couches without getting a single sniffle.

Ditto the drying time, ours takes a couple of hours to dry when we shampoo it.

  • I have used Resolver High Traffic Foam Cleaner. I use it on my carpets and I tried on a few spots on our microfiber couches and they came out. Take a little while to dry, but smells good.

  • My mom haqd microfiber and used Resolve carpet cleaner to spot clean.  Worked like a charm and her couches always looked new.

This!!! I love my little green machine! I just don't use as much of the shampoo that it calls for. I don't like the way it makes it feel once dry. In fact, I have started using vinegar and water instead.

I try to clean my furniture at least 2 times a year because I have 2 dogs that think the sofa is for them.

  • I agree! We used a Rug Doctor (carpet cleaner) on ours as well. Definitely leave time for the couch to dry but it worked very well and our couch looks much better!
