Recommend your humidifier!
I recently bought a CVS brand cool mist humidifier after having a series of nose bleeds. I was hoping it was something I could use in the nursery; however, it is pretty loud and the reservoir isn't actually connected to the humidifier part. I was thinking of trying a Vicks, but don't want to spend more money if the outcome is the same (I'll be returning the CVS brand). TIA!
and man is it dead today...
Re: Recommend your humidifier!
We have this one and love it. You can set the humidity and fan speed. Ultrasonic so no filters needed. And able to turn off all lights

We have 2 of these.
They work great; however, they are warm mist, and it looks like you are looking for cool mist. I can definitely recommend the brand (Holmes) and I bought them at Target.
I've had a Holmes warm mist in the past, but I thought it was preferable to have cool mist in nursery. Did you a warm mist in Jack's room?

16 read! my read shelf:
Yes, we had one in our room and one in his room all winter long. I believe we bought them when he had a cold (to help him breathe, sort of like bringing the baby in the bathroom for the steam from the shower) - and then we just kept using them for the rest of the winter. Who knows, maybe we were supposed to use cool mist?? haha Anyone else know the answer to this???
ETA: I just looked online and it looks like the only difference between the 2 is that if a child plays with the warm mist humidifier, the steam can burn them. And, the warm mist makes the room warmer (duh). When we had the warm mist humidifier in Jack's room, he was in a crib, so never a danger of him touching the steam. And, being that it was winter, the extra warmth from the mist was welcome
Yep, that's the only reason. Last winter, we had a warm mist (a Vick's brand) one in Nora's room, and plan to use the same one this year, I think. As long as she's in the cirb, we're not worried about burns!

Some people also advise against warm mist because it is more likely to breed mold, but if you clean it regularly that shouldn't be an issue.
I have had the Holmes brand humidifiers in the past, but sometimes had difficulty finding replacement filters or the replacement filters were pricey. We also have hard water, so the white dust was really bad.
I broke down and bought an Air-O-Swiss ultrasonic humidifier. You can get them at Target, but I got mine at Bed Bath & Beyond so I could use a 20% off coupon. It has a humidity setting and is really quiet. It does both warm and cool mist. It has a special cartridge to reduce white dust (which I still get but not as bad). My only complaint is that there is no handle on the bottom of the reservoir so it is a little awkward to refill. And it is a little pricey, but no filters to buy.
