Shouldn't "Gossip Girl" be moving on??

Not the show. I mean the actual mystery girl who runs the website. It occurred to me that this chick is still following and reporting on people from high school! How old is she now? Shouldn't she be moving on to bigger and better things?

Note: this is a tongue in cheek post- I know she sets the stage and serves as sort of a narrator... plus she can't go anywhere since the show is named after her. But I was just thinking- this girl has no life! Smile

Re: Shouldn't "Gossip Girl" be moving on??

  • My H and I were just talking about how we don't even care who GG is anymore. In the first few seasons, she caused some drama. She really only serves as the narrator now. I miss early seasons :(

  • IIRC, in the books, Gossip Girl turned out to be Chuck Bass and the series never went past them being in high school.  Also, Chuck's character was, again if I remember right, gay, and pretty flamboyant.  He carried a monkey around with him all the time.  ETA: Wiki says in the books it is suspected that Chuck is bisexual and is a secondary character.  I swear I remember one of the books saying he was actually gay, but I guess not.

MH says Dorota has to be Gossip Girl - lol.

LOL! Chuck was GG!?! Say whaaat?

I am not at all familiar with the books but kind of assumed it was based on high school only. Imagine these characters turning 30 and still hearing "Gossip girl here!!"

Wait, I just finished the last GG book and they definitely haven't mentioned that Chuck is GG.  Although actually now that I'm typing this, I haven't read the prequel or the book that is supposed to take place during Thanksgiving of their college year.  Is that when Chuck is outed as Gossip Girl?

And in the last book of the original 11 before they go to college Chuck is in a relationship with a guy.  Btu they don't really say if he is gay or bi.  So you definitely aren't wrong about that!

Hi!  I'm new to this board and thought I would jump in on this post.

I read the books and thought they alluded to Chuck being GG too.  I was telling my MH that Chuck was gay in the books and was completely blown away.  I think he has a man cruch on Chuck!

Also, I was reading an article last week that Leighton bought a house in LA.  That made me think she would be leaving since it would be hard to film in NYC while living in LA.

I started writing a post and the nest gods ate it so I apologize in advance if this dups.

  • Yeah, I don't think they were like Chuck Bass is Gossip Girl, but I swear I read something where it seemed obvious it was him.  It's been a few years, but now I want to make my husband dig those books out of storage so I can look and see what made me think that!  :)

  • Well, you know how some people never "leave" high school.  Their lives are so boring that all they can do is talk about other people's lives.

Also, if that many people visit GG's website and are signed up for those alerts she's probably making some good money on advertising!

That is really interesting. I'm slightly embarrassed that I never noticed this!

Also for those that were surprised that Chuck was gay in the books.  Vanessa in the books shaves her head (as in, full on bald) and wears combat boots.  lol.  The differences between the book and show are sometimes really funny!

I keep wishing this would happen!  I liked Vanessa in the book so much better than Vanessa on the show!

I kind of think of it this way.  Gossip blogs make some serious money.  I think of GG as an earlier version of Perez Hilton or a younger version of Page Six.  He's been going for years and Page Six has been around forever.  I've never read the books though.

I thought about Perez Hilton and other sites like it but GG is following people from the high school! That aren't even there anymore. It's just weird. LOL

  • This is all true, but when they graduated HS and thought they would be rid of GG, she posted that she was coming with them to college. Like others said it's more of a Page 6 thing about the rich kids from Manhattan so it isn't just a HS thing anymore....even in the last episode, there was video of Chuck on the site and where he was. So it's people who send in the hits. She just posts them.

Right.. yeah I get that, but what about the rich kids that in high school now? Don't all the teens want to keep up with the current "in crowd?" Anyway, just a silly observation! Smile

  • Yea but this "girl" was in their class.

LOL. So back to my original point! She needs to grow up!

Let's face it- it doesn't *really* make sense but it has to be kept up because that's the whole premise of the show. In reality, if she wanted a great gossip site she'd branch out and follow the entire upper east side, not just a small group of young twenty somethings that were popular in high school. I guess I'll make myself feel better and assume that someone out there continued the tradition and started a blog at their high school to take her place. Wink

It's just entertainment though, I know!

  • Yeah, just totally randomly popping into this conversation but I (shamefully? proudly?) have read ALL the Gossip Girl books, including the prequel AND the sequel (oh, yes there is a sequel where they are in college lol).

They never say who Gossip Girl is, but there is definitely some speculation that it's Chuck.

Chuck is a secondary character, and is very flamboyant/kinda gay. He mentions hooking up with guys and girls, so he is sort of bi, but I think he's actually straight and hooks up with dudes for the shock factor?

The point about GG getting money for advertising and not really having to follow them is a good one.
