So I went in for my appointment this morning and my blood pressure was really high (like 180/70-something). They had me rest for a minute to see if it would go down and it went down to 118/60. I have a history of hypertension, but my numbers have been great this pregnancy. Then my weight gain was up 6.5 in the past 2 weeks where I had been pretty consistent at 2-3 until today. It's mostly attributable to water retention because my legs are super swollen.
So my OB has a strong suspicion of pre-e; however, there isn't any protein in the urine and my blood test came back good. So I have to go back tomorrow and Monday for blood pressure checks. For now though, I am on bed rest.
The bummer is that if she keeps me on bed rest and he doesn't come for a few weeks yet (4 weeks until my due date) it is still counting against my maternity leave which is only 6 weeks long + 2 weeks of vacation that I am taking at the end.
Re: Boo ... best rest
Hopefully after your checks tomorrow and Monday they'll see that today's numbers are just a fluke.
Didn't almost the same thing just happen with Claire?

ugh, Jules, I'm sorry!
I could be wrong - but I'd call whoever holds your STD policy. I believe with a doctors note they can extend your leave. (I've heard of people getting notes about not being ready after 6 weeks post-birth, so I would imagine a similar case could be made for needing to go out early).
is there anyway to work from home?
Also, make sure you are eating 80+ gms of protein a day + 80+ oz of water.
That amount of protein (80 gms is 2 large chicken breasts) has been shown to keep away pre-e
I hope you feel better!
I would talk directly to your STD provider. You should get 6 weeks (that's standard) disability for a vaginal birth, but any pre-birth disability should be treated independently. Even if you went out now, 4+6STD+2vac is in the 12 w FMLA which is really all your job should care about. I don't believe companies have the right to decide which disability to accept/to treat it (eg, if you go out on disability now).
FWIW, C works for a major medical manufacturer (in a small division of mostly men) and her HR people are stupid and although she is the 3rd to give birth in a year, they screwed up her STD (similar situation, billed wrong - she went out 2 w before delivering, then had 8w csection recovery...).
ditto the bolded - when I called my HR about my leave the only thing they told me was to call our benefit center and they would connect me with MetLife to open a case for me. HR has nothing to do with your STD if an outside company provides the policy.
Yup. At my 36 week appt my BP was borderline high (I think like 146/96 where it has been around 100-115/70-something all pregnancy). I also think I gained like 5lbs that appt (and I had previously gained 14 ALL PREGNANCY). I was swollen and having headaches too. No protein in my urine and my bloodwork came back normal. I focused on REALLY drinking lots of water again (I drink tons anyway, but I made sure to increase intake anyway) and at this week's appt I was up total of 15lbs, and my BP was 100/80. I'm having weekly ultrasounds now as is their practice at my OB's office b/c of my BMI. Baby is small (they think almost 6lbs) but looks great and I'm hoping for no other Pre-E warning signs!
As an aside, I have no idea what happens with your STD, but for me, it would be separate from the delivery STD, although I think that going on bedrest would start the FMLA clock for me.
This is normal.
