Can I bring kids to Jaleo?

Or is it more of an adult place? After getting back from Barcelona I really want some more patatas bravas (haha) and people keep telling me they have them and are pretty decent at Jaleo, I'm just not sure if I should walk in there with our 3 girls....who are pretty well behaved

Re: Can I bring kids to Jaleo?

  • I think it would be fine as long as you're not trying to do so during a Happy Hour, Caps game day, etc. -- when it's super crowded, full of hipsters, etc. I think there's a location in Crystal City that might be less congested?

  • I think it would be fine if you go for lunch or an early dinner.

  • we've been there at 6-7ish on a friday and there were several families with kiddos in tow. if it were a quiet restaurant, i'd say no but it's a pretty lively place.

  • They also have a really amazing brunch menu on weekends if you wanted to go earlier.  I highly recommend the bruleed toast soaked in orange liquor.

  • Thanks everyone, I was thinking an earlier dinner or brunch so we'll try it out!
  • the patas bravas at La Tasca are actually pretty good. jaleo is great but if you can't get in there this is a good alternative. i went to Jaleo a few weeks after we got back from spain and it was good but i think that place has gone down in quality a lot since it opened.

  • Jaleo and La Tasca are both really loud, so I think it would be fine to bring kids to either place.

Jaleo's patatas bravas used to be so good.  Last time I had them a few years ago, they changed them to chip-like things...  they were not good.  I'm not sure how they are now.

If you're considering LaTasca, be sure to check all of the deal-of-the day sites and instant deals (as well as restaurant.com).  LaTasca pops up on those sites fairly often.

  • Thanks for the tip! I hope they aren't chip like things at Jaleo, that just wouldn't be the same!
  • OK, so after saying that, I had to check...

Looks like they have the traditional kind, and the "new way" on the menu (at least in the CC location - which I will never eat at again thanks to Artslvr's story a while back...): http://www.allmenus.com/va/arlington/268339-jaleo-crystal-city/menu/

I don't know how they're served in Chinatown.

uh oh.  what's wrong with the cc location?  (i was going to take my mom there in a few weeks!)

  • Ha ha ha!  That's right.  Good memory Ch Ch Ch!

Not the end of the world, but my friend and I dined at the Jaleo in CC and I saw a dead mouse on the floor.  The waitress walked by it several times, and I was sure she would notice (it was right out in the open, not under a table).  I brought it to her attention and she was appropriately mortified, discreetly picked it up on her next trip through, and gave us a free dessert.  Now that I think back it was more funny than gross - I'm sure there are more rodents in restaurants than I care to know!

I still can't believe they didn't comp your meal...
