A ? for paper crafters

I have a ton of scraps. I tend to go through them once a week to trim them down, and get rid of stuff that is unusable.

I feel like a paper hoarder. I tend to save almost everything. Even if it's the tiniest strip. So I was wondering, how do you clean out your scraps? How much/many scraps do you have? How do you determine what to keep?

I use my scraps often, but I feel like I'm now accumulating so much, and I'm running out of room!

Thanks for  your responses!

Re: A ? for paper crafters

  • My scraps have to be at least 5x5 for me to keep them.  I got really tired of all those tiny scraps that I never used taking up valuable storage space.

  • I have two sizes of accordion file folders I use to store my scraps.  One for the large pieces and one for the smaller ones.  I even use the little ones to punch out flowers or eyes.

  • If it's less than 4" I toss it. I had way too many scraps and I never dug through them when I needed them. Even for tiny cutouts you can just use a corner of a larger scrap rather than saving a super tiny one. If it bothers you to throw out tiny scraps, maybe you should take up hand-made paper?

  • I have a hard time tossing them as well.  I keep all my scraps in folders by color so that they are easy to find and use.  I found that it helped me out a lot since I could get to them easily and use them vs. digging through a big pile and ending up cutting a new paper up.
