Re: Clicky: Who cleans?

  • I do it alone and I do so happily.  I would prefer if DH would get the fvck out while I am cleaning.
  • I do mostly everything, but he does help out a lot when he can. Last night I got home from LifeGroup and in addition to taking care of both boys all evening, he did the dishes too! :) He knows doing the dishes is the chore I dislike the most.
  • I am one of those weird people who finds cleaning soothing. I am able to relax AND be clutter free. Dh cooks and I clean, it works and I honestly would have it no other way.

  • I do 99% of the cleaning.  MH gets OCD about certain things though like me leaving glasses in the living room and goes on rants about picking them up. Smile

He will also do the dishes for me a lot of the times and he does all the outide things and what I like to call man chores (taking out trash, mowing, taking care of garage etc).

  • We both hate to clean so we only do it at the same time so there's no "I did more than you did" resentment. We trade off each time. One person does kitchen + bathrooms and the other does the rest of the house.

As far as routine things go (dishes, trash, and wiping down the kitchen counters) we alternate. During the week he works I do them. During the week he's off I do them.

In the summer (when the grass isn't dead from a watering ban) I usually use the riding mower while he weed eats, then once he's done he hops on the mower and I weed the flower beds or spray around the house to keep bugs out.

  • I do 99.9% of the cleaning but H is slowly helping more. When we first got married and moved in together would go behind him and re-clean what he had just done because I was that anal. I am OCD and his cleaning was not up to my standards. I have laid off a bit just because I work 2 jobs and feel like he can contribute to the cleaning. I do sort the laundry for him so that is an easy thing for him and I have no reason to get pissy of something gets washed with the wrong clothes. He vaccums and loads the dishwasher now that I am not so anal. It has taken major baby steps for me to let him do the things he does but he is becoming more like me in the OCD dept so that helps.

This is me.  I lack the motivation sometimes, but I like cleaning and find that it's a good stress reliever.  I do all the cleaning and laundry.  If he tried to clean I would die of shock, but I'd have to go re-do everything first.
When I got home from the GTG last week he had started some laundry.  I was like "why is the washer going?" haha

  • DH only helps when it's less than 2 hours before we have guests hahaha. He's getting a little better with helping other times though.

  • DH occassionally does laundry, weed eats, does dishes and changes the air filters.  He will help out if I give him very specific chores to do.  I wish he would clean up after himself by putting away his shoes and clothes that he leaves all over the house and putting his dishes in the kitchen.  Other than that he might as well go hide somewhere because we have totally different mindsets about cleaning  and I'd rather he just be out of the way!
  • I do most of the cleaning, but H does most of the cooking. He also does some light cleaning, like washing dishes half the time. I think we have a fair division of household chores.

  • I do most of the cleaning and our laundry.  H does his work clothes (they're dirty so he has a washer and dryer of his own in the garage) so they don't contaminate our nicer clothes that we wear.

H is really sweet about helping out if I need him to.  I think he can sense if it's been a long day or if I'm overwhelmed because he'll do something around the house out of no where.  He is also responsible for the mowing/weed eating/edging (he's very good at it, too) and we both tackle the flower beds to keep them free of weeds and grass every week.

  • I think I'm really lucky in that we're very compatible in this area. We both seem to have the exact same mix of lazy slob and OCD freak. Wha. I mean is we both tend to have the same threshold of when something is too much and must be cleaned so that neither of us ever feels like we have to ask the other to help out and nobody ever feels nagged. If the dishes need done and he's home, he does them. If trash needs to be taken out and I see it, I do it.
  • I do most of the inside stuff, and he does most of the outside stuff.  He also takes out the trash.
