Mary (sewing)

Do you have a recommendation for a good sewing machine for a semi beginner?

I know the basics of sewing and can use a machine to make pillows and other easy things. I would like to start doing more, though, and with our JoAnn's expanding (like tripling their size!), they will be having lots of classes. So, I think it's time for me to get a good machine. I want something that won't be difficult for me to learn on, but I don't want to have to upgrade in a year either. What did you start with? Have you upgraded?

Re: Mary (sewing)

  • I have a singer, which don't have the good reputation they used to, but it was all my joanna had when I started. I have not upgraded bc it works well for me and I don't need any additional features. I am thinking of getting a Serger though. For you, over on the craft board a lot of girls recommend the Brother brand. There is a specific one you can get on either amazon or overstock for a good deal. At the top of the crafts board is a link to FAQs with sewing machine recs.
  • Thanks! I'll check it out.
