HE washing machine

We are in the market for a new washer dryer and are debating getting the high efficiency ones.

A lot of the reviews I?ve read seem say that because it doesn?t use as much water, your clothes do not come out as clean and everything is very wrinkled when it?s done washing.

If you have a top loading (front loaders won?t fit in our little laundry room) HE washing machine, do you like it?

Re: HE washing machine

  • We have a top loading HE washing machine and I love it!!!  Our clothes come out just as clean as with a regular washing machine.  My biggest issues is when I wash big loads, especially big loads of towels or other heavy stuff.  I have to be careful to balance everything evenly in the machine, or else it will not be balanced when it spins (basically, don't put all of my towels on one side of the machine, and sheets on the other side, I make sure they are spread out a bit).  But this isn't that big of a deal to me.

Yes your clothes will be "wrinkled" when you finish washing them, but that's a crazy argument, because you'll just put the clothes in the dryer.  Everything comes out of the dryer the same as a normal washer and dryer.

    Good luck with the search!

  • We just bought an LG HE washing machine (top loading) about a month ago and I love it!  I think it cleans just as well, if not better, than our previous mashing machine.

And I agree with PP that of course your clothes will be wrinkled but that's why you put them in the dryer!

  • I know you said top-loading, but we have a front loading HE and we love it! I would not say the clothes don't come out as clean, and they're not any more wrinkled than any other washer. The only weird thing is they use a lot less detergent, and if you put too much in you clothes will be kind of soapy/sticky.

  • Let me just say something about wrinkled clothes out of the washer, I do not have a HE washer or dryer and my clothes still come out wrinkled. lol... so to me that is the silliest objection against HE machines.
  • Wrinkles matter in our house.  DH refuses to put his clothes in the dryer. He insists on air drying just about everything because he thinks the dryer will shrink his clothes.  This isn't a battle I am ever going to win, so I have given up and moved on. ;)

Our (old style) washer doesn't wrinkle stuff too badly, but it would be a concern with a new HE one because I don't want to be ironing all the time!

    Thanks for the responses!
