If you could get ONE crafty gift for Christmas...

What would it be?

My grandmother is an amazing crafter... She knits, crochets, makes pottery AND ceramics, paints, sews, and does just about everything else involving art. She's my go-to for knitting 911!!!

With that being said, I have no idea what to make or buy her for Christmas. Everything craft related that she could use, she could also make....much better than I can, I might add.

What's the ONE crafty gift you'd love to get this year?

Re: If you could get ONE crafty gift for Christmas...

  • Nothing would make the crafty side of me happier than to receive a gift card to Michaels or JoAnns for Christmas so that I could continue crafting. I got a $50 gift card to Michaels last year from my SILs and was ESTATIC!

  • Same, probably a gift card.  I have some beautiful needles, a swift, a ball-winder, and a brand-spanking-new yardage counter, so really, all I need is the yarn to knit with.

Oh, and I wouldn't say "no" to something pretty to store my yarn in.  Most of mine is in a cardboard box in the guestroom closet right now.

  • Ditto the gift card idea.  If she has a favorite place to get supplies I'd do it for that store.
  • I would love to get a quilt. For some reason, no one has ever given me one. However, I also love getting fabric because then I can make something I love out of it and think of that person when I use it. :)

  • maybe a gc to somewhere like a Local Yarn shop (or knitpicks if she is comfortable ordering online) or fabric shop?

  • I agree a gift card is a good idea, but I bet your grandmother would really like something made by you even if she can make it better!  Especially if she helped you learn to craft!

I have a friend who makes everyone a baby blanket when they have babies.  It is just two pieces of flannel sewn together then turned and top stitched.  When I had my baby she did not make me one because she knew I made baby quilts and said she thought I wouldn't want one because I could make it myself...I was so bummed to not get a blanket from her!

Awww bummer! I am sorry :(

My mom is also crafty and I love when she gives me her own crafty creations!

  • do you sew at all? and does she have storage for her needles? my grandmother knits like you wouldn't believe but didn't have a good way to store he needles so I made her a roll to keep them in (think crayon roll scaled way up). she loved it.
  • An Ott- Lite makes it way easier to tell if colors are correct or match with fabric and yarn. A Stitch Witch to thread her hand sewing needles. Or a Side Winder to wind extra bobbins while she sews. All great sewing/crafting gifts that I've got and used over the years.

  • Those are great suggestions! Thanks, girls! I think I will try to make her something... my friend can sew the needle roll (I'm going to have to ask for one for me too!) but maybe I can knit her a glasses case for her reading glasses.

    Thanks again!

  • I'm hoping for a Brother embroidery machine.

  • Crafty people still love receiving crafty gifts. Your grandma would love to receive something from you. Even if she could do a better job, it wouldn't be from you.
