Husband activities

Does you husband have any clubs/sports/standing dates with friends that he does? How much time does he spend on it?

M's in a soccer league that plays around the corner from our old apartment.  Now that we've moved it's up to 5+ hours every Saturday afternoon in the spring and fall. He likes it and I get that it's his guy time, but I'm starting to hate it because we can never do anything on Saturdays.

Re: Husband activities

  • Band runs our lives every weekend in the fall, several weekends in the winter, and weeks at a time during the summer.  Most of the time it's just him, but there are some things that I do get to do with him.

He's done a lot of volunteering with other groups this year as well, meaning that when he gets done with his rehearsal at 6, he drives a half hour to go help a friend of his until nine, then has to drive an hour to get home after that.  I ask him not to do that a whole lot because it does really cut into our time together, but I know how much he loves what he does and how much he loves helping his friends, so that makes it a bit easier.  I know it's not the same thing for you because soccer isn't part of M's job, but I do understand the frustration of never getting to see your H some weeks.

As much as it sucks, I probably wouldn't make a thing out of it.  Everyone needs a way to decompress after a work week.  Maybe go with him and watch every now and then.  And make sure that any weekend he does have off that you two plan to do something that you both enjoy together!

  • Law School.  Between classes and studying plus a daytime job it is all DH has time for.  Hopefully, once he graduates it will be different.

  • s coached youth hockey before we moved. He's hoping to get A on the ice this wiinter and start coaching next fall. He was at 6 am practice 3 days a week, plus weekend games and night practice, so about 10-20 hours/week. He also played in a league, so about 3 hours a week.

right now he's studying for his PE exam in 20 days...thats about 40 hours a week....

  • He doesn't really have anything like that that he does. Sometimes I wish that he did, or that we would pick up a sport together. We could definantly be much more active. However....when my husband is away its normally because he has a truck to deliver OR he has decided to go on a trip with "the guys" without me. That has really started to bug me lately. It used to be that if I couldn't go he would refuse, now it's no biggy to him. I told him that and that it actually made me sad and he immediatly started working on it.

  • DH is a volunteer with the fire department. This translates into the following:

weekly drills on tuesdays from 7-9, sometimes later

weekly tutoring sessions with another firefighter who can't pass her dang paramedic certification test for the life of her.

Quick Response Team meetings monthly - he's the assistant coordinator, and the real coordinator has been out with a broken leg for 6+ months so David plans the entire training session and leads it. An all night event.

Other special training sessions - average 2x a month

real calls at any goddamn moment where he will leave at the drop of a hat - 4x a month that he ends up going on

And he has video game dates with his friends for XBOX live - multiple times a week. But normally during the day when I'm at work.

  • Ryan is starting to resent my cheerleading because I'm out about 10 hours a week.

BUT, he places KC ball (Knights of Columbus) usually 2-4 times a week. The time changes weekly-sometime it's at 6, sometimes at 9 which sucks, but we work around it because I have cheerleading.

We had an argument about who would give up what when KR arrived, there was times that he was out every night except Friday until 9 or 10 at night playing ball (because he was on multiple teams)

So far he bumped it down a bit.

  • Other than work and grad school, DH has no outside activities.  I kind of wish he did sometimes because I feel ever so slightly guilty leaving him with kid duty while I go out with friends and participate in book club.

  • Oh geeze..so there's Golf League every Sunday from March - Halloween. When it is nice he also plays on Saturdays. He coaches boys swimming and volunteers with the girls' team. This means practices until 5, two meets a weetk and Saturday morning practice.

I get irritated by the Saturday golf at times, but if I ask him to do something he obliges.  My mom knows to make Sunday family dinners after 2 (when he's done golfing).

Oh and since he's a hs teacher he goes to football games on Friday nights -- but last night we went out to dinner first!

I try and look at the positives. 1) My kid is 8 months old and gets to go swimming a few times a week -- he brings her in at the end of practice. 2) No way can he get annoyed with me going to Zumba 3 or 4 times a week!

  • in the summer dan is gone a lot. he plays basketball on monday and wednesday evenings, softball on thursday and beach volleyball on sunday. i don't mind because a lot of times eli and i go watch some or all because we have friends whose wives and kids come too.

in the fall he plays basketball on Thursdays and softball on Tuesday nights in a co-ed league.

in the winter and spring he has basketball on tuesday and thursday nights.

I do like that its mainly on week nights so we still have our weekends.

  • John isn't really involved in anything and sometimes I wish he was. That being said during the summer months every Wednesday after work he mows lawns for about 3-4 hours so he's busy with that. As well as on Saturdays it's almost always a full day's job. Then winter hits and he sits at home all the time after work.

Since I spend most of my days at home I don't feel bad about the evenings that I'm busy which is about 3-4 evenings in a month.

  • M doesn't have a set schedule for anything like that. Work and his school stuff keep him really busy right now. I consider it a good thing to get to eat dinner together right now. He does volunteer to speak in a local prison once a month. He works with a group of ministers and really enjoys sharing what the Lord has done in his life with prisoners and juveniles. Other than that, everything he does with friends is pretty spur of the moment. I try to not protest any of it since the poor guy is all work right now.

  • Judd travels for work probably once a week and is gone for at least a night or two. That takes a lot of his time. Otherwise, he is on a political board for the county and is active in local politics. He has probably two events a month.

He also volunteers for the Ohio Fallen Hero's Memorial,  an organization honoring gold star families and local hero's from Iraq/ Afghanistan.

  • We farm.... enough said lol

Lance also coaches football on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
