High speed internet providers?

Our current internet company can't service us when we move to Omaha, so I need to find someone else. I really want to try to avoid having to get a home phone line, and I want to try to stay away from Cox after hearing ya'll talk about how screwy they are! :) We are staying with Dish Network for our TV.

Any suggestions? TIA! :)

  • I've had both Qwest and Cox and there is no difference that I noticed (I don't stream anything really though).  DH works for Cox now, so we have them for everything, so I'm not sure what people are saying is screwy, but I haven't noticed a change from Qwest to Cox.

I just remembered reading on here that they up their rates a lot and what not. Maybe every place does, but for some reason I just remembered people on here talking about Cox and their price changes a lot.

  • I've had cox for years and never had any problems with them. And there customer service and automated help line have always solved any issues that have come up. My modem was going out one year and I kept losing service they figured out the issue and I was back in business by the end of the day.
  • We have Cox and haven't had any issues with it (we've only had it a year though).  We had Qwest before we moved here & planned to go with them, but they weren't available in all areas of Omaha (including where we live).  I don't know if that is still the case since they are now CenturyLink.

I think their price increases are mostly cable-related, but I'm not sure if the internet service changes often.

  • I think the reason you hear about the Cox issues vs "the other guys" is it seems to me most people have Cox.

The internet rate has went up gradually I think around $25 since I first started internet with them 7 yrs ago. When I started it was 29.99 now it is 54.99. I just downgraded to the 34 or 36 one and have not had any problems. We do netflix and havent had any issues.
