Rant: I'm sick...

My students got me sick and I feel miserable. I can't breathe out of my nose so I am a total mouth breather right now! Angry So bad, that I woke up half way through the night and my mouth/lips were totally dried out because I had to keep my mouth open to breathe while I was sleeping....I hate it. I just want to be able to breathe out of my nose again.

The worst part is that my brain totally shuts down when I am sick and I have a really hard time thinking critically.....this is a problem because I have one big paper to write this weekend and several other assignments to do. Make it go away. Crying

Do you have any rants?

  • My rant is that this gal finally showed up, but is now sitting in her car and not coming in.  I'm guessing she's on the phone, but we both have kids in the same school that get out at the same time, and we now have to leave to get them in 55 minutes.  Why even bother, really?

TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.
  • My rant is that I have a bunch of PTO built up at work, and I need to use 7 or 8 days (56-64 hours) before the end of the year or I'll "lose" them and my manager is giving me grief about requesting time off.  I predict several call-in "sick" days if my requested days off are not approved!

Does your company have a policy that requires the boss to quit harassing you and give you the time?

My old company had a clause that if they denied use or lose leave because they said they need you at work, etc. they had to cash it out to you on the last pay check of the year.

My company does, in theory, but the way it is written in the contract gives it a bunch of loopholes.  I'm pretty sure I'll be able to squeeze at least 4-5 days approved out of my manager, but I find the guilt trip a major annoyance and I'm sick of having to provide "valid reasons" for each and every day.

We get four "Personal Holidays" a year, where you have to use a full 8 hours at a time, and they are completely "use or lose" at the end of the year.

Then those who have worked for the company under five years get 13 1/3 hours of PTO (a combo of Sick and Vacation time) a month.  This year we can only carry over 40 hours PTO to the new year (it used to be 80).  I love that I get so much paid time off, but it gets hard to be able to use it all Sad
