Lining up embroidery projects
Does anyone have any tips or tutorials for perfectly lining up your embroidery project in the hoop so it ends up exactly where you want it to be on the item?
ETA: Not sure this part is important but my machine is a Singer XL 400. I've been googling but nothing seems to spell it out directly what I am supposed to do.
Re: Lining up embroidery projects
#1...are you able to print out a template of your design?
#2...does your machine have a built in "crosshair"?
#3...does your hoop have a plastic insert with a grid?

1) Yes I think I can
2) I don't think so - how would I find this?
3) No
I will check on number 2 when I get home though
Yes, if I first position the needle in the center but the first stitch is in the upper left corner (obviously an example), when I press the start button it will automatically go to the upper left corner (or wherever the first stitch is). All of this is based on my Brother machine, but I would assume they all function similarly.

OK another dumb question - if it's a built in design, does that mean it's something the machine sews? I'm confused how that would work - like a test run or something to make sure it's really centered in the hoop before you stitch the actual design?
Take your time finding the tutorials - I appreciate it!
Have fun at the game and welcome home to H! No more baseball here - Red Sox are out of the playoffs - but so are the Yankees so it's OK
There are no dumb questions; wish I could say the same for my answers! It is much easier for ME to show someone what to do or how to do something, than it is for ME to explain it.
I did some searching and found this. It may be a little more than you were asking but it does explain how to align your machine for perfect design placement. It shows multiple hooping but I think you can get the idea from it.
I hope this helps! I found that the best help was sticktoitiveness!
Good luck.
