Place to live between DC and Baltimore?
Hi all! My H just got a job offer in Baltimore which is really exciting since he's been looking for more than a year. The lousy part is that I have a good job in Arlington. Do you think there exists a decent place to live between here and there so that we could both have doable commutes? I'm guess the answer is no, but I really don't want to move
Re: Place to live between DC and Baltimore?
Another friend moved to Annapolis. She said it was 45-60 minutes to both DC and Baltimore.
Stand up for something you believe in.
DH leaves for work at 7:30 ish and takes the beltway to 95 and he gets to Columbia in about 30 minutes. As long as he leaves before 7:45 he can make it to work ok even if traffic seems bad.
and we live in Kensington
I don't have flexible hours (8:30am to 5:30pm) but I'm glad you mentioned that because I will try that as a back-up plea if my boss says no to working remotely. The more I am thinking about this whole thing the more I'm dreading it--I think it's going to be a nightmare commute for me no matter where we live.
You could take the MARC in as well. My husband commuted into Gtown via MARC and metro from Laurel (we live here). You can also drive to Greenbelt metro, a pretty easy drive from Laurel. He's also commuted into Baltimore from Laurel. Way easier as you go against most traffic.
We live in Laurel now, moved from Annapolis, and I work near Metro Center. From both places, my total commute has been about 1 hour and 15 minutes either driving or using public transportation (MARC connecting to Circulator from Laurel and MTA commuter bus from Annapolis.) I guess it depends on where your H works in Baltimore, but I think Laurel would be the easier commute for him slightly.
Regarding places to live, I much preferred Annapolis.
What about Crofton? That would be a little better for you and you could park at New Carrollton and take the Metro and there are some nice places there.
I'm in Odenton and work in Gaithersburg, so I can skip the beltway in the morning. H works in Baltimore so we're more than halfway to him. Laurel is a good option, and you could look at Columbia, but that would be longer for you to get to public transportation. Friends of ours live near us and she used to commute to Crystal City--drove to New Carrollton and then metro'd but said it would take close to 1:30-1:45 each way....
That being said, supposedly the average commute in DC is 54 minutes, which is right where I am so you're not alone!
