This morning, I woke up to the sounds of Sawyer happily chattering away in his crib, so I took my time and got a pot of coffee brewing. When I went up a few minutes later to get him out of his crib, I noticed his face was covered in specks of something. Then I saw that his mouth was full of chips of paint from the crib! Apparently he was entertaining himself by chewing the side rail, and in just a few minutes, really scarred it up. So I want to get some of the crib rail protectors as soon as possible, but I've been looking all morning, and can't find anything that is made for curved side rails. I've seen the straight rail ones, but I don't know if they would be long enough to tie over the thick parts of the rails on the crib we have. This is the only picture I have that shows the crib, but you can kind of see what I mean by the rail shape.

Anyone ever purchase or make something for side rails like this? The front rail is potentially a problem, too, since it's so thick. I know standard bumper ties (which we didn't use) weren't made long enough to tie around it. TIA!

Re: Crib Rail Protectors
We have these. http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=17322125&
(side rails) and http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=16402508& (front rail - you can hang toys from it, which is cool).
They are soft and velcro around. They should work as I know they're for convertible / thicker cribs.
I ordered these on amazon

Washed them and never put them on. I was expecting Evie to chew on her rails, but she never found it. I am still expecting it and will probably put them on soon (did try them on before I washed them)
But they do work on our wide curvy rails

We had the same problem with Nora. That girl did so much damage to her crib in such a short period of time--and she only had ONE tooth!
My mom made some crib rail protectors with some fabric that coordinates with her bedding. I don't have any pics of ours to share yet, but she used an online tutorial as a guide-- http://www.babyrabies.com/2009/02/shes-crafty/

For a quick solution I have also seen people get some fleece at a fabric store, cut the length and cut for ties along long edge (like the fleece blankets that people make) and tie around railing. May not be the prettiest thing but a quick solution for naps and bed tonight.

Great idea! I'm planning on making ours to coordinate with the rest of the fabric in the nursery, like Heather did.
Abby made a terrible mess of the rails on her crib and then we put these (sheet savers) on and now use them for the twins too. We just tied them over the rail and onto a slat. I looked at actual crib rail protectors but these actually stayed on better plus I had a bunch at home!!

We have this clear gummy thing. It works on sleigh cribs like yours.

Hopefully they'll work for us!
And until they come, I have a towel wrapped over the top and tied around some of the slats. Not pretty, but it should hold for now. Thanks again!
