Update on my GTT

I have officially been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes.  I found out yesterday and it took a bit to sink in but I'm officially ready to share with you girls.  I have 1 cousin that had GD and that was about 3 years ago so she was sharing with me some of the things she has remembered.  I have of course googled everything you can imagine.  Edgar has been wonderful and very supportive.  I have an appointment with a specialist on Tuesday at 3:30 so hopefully I will know more.  It's just put everything into perspective a little more, like I could possibly be put on bed rest, if I don't control my sugar count I could be placed in the hospital so they could monitor and maintain, I could be induced before my due date, etc.  I know it's not the WORST thing to have ever happened to me but I really took my "easy" pregnancy for the 1st 7 months for granted.

Re: Update on my GTT

  • I'm sorry to hear that you have GD.  :(

I think Alyssa may have had GD, so she might be a good person to talk to.  Good luck!

  • I'm so sorry Laura.  Try and look at the bright side...you will get to see your baby more often!

  • That is a bummer. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that they are able to help you keep it under control so that you don't have to be in the hospital. Going along with Tara's "bright side" if you have any books you've wanted to read, if you're on bedrest you'll have plenty of time Big Smile and you can read to baby.
  • hugs sweetie xoxo

  • I had GD with my pregnancy from very early on. It's really not that bad. You will have to monitor your sugar and control your diet (sugar intake) but hopefully that will be all you will have to do. If it remains uncontrolled with diet, you may have to have insulin shots. They tell you about the hospitalization mostly to scare you into making sure you diet. I did not have to be hospitalized at all, although my baby did come almost seven weeks early.

I hope it all goes smoothly for you! If you need to talk about it, I'm here. I know how hard it is to prick your fingers five times a day and how frustrating it is not to be able to eat anything you want at the one time in your life when you are supposed to!

  • I could understand a little more if I ate bad or gained a ton of weight but I haven't done either.  I'm still below my pre pregnancy weight and so it just strikes me as odd.  My dr did make a comment about it being hormonal and some people just "have it".  In my case this would make sense considering the problems we had getting pregnant because of my hormones.

  • Big hugs to you!  I know how much it sucks to get bad pregnancy news.  I just hope that you're able to control it effectively with diet and it won't really be that much of a big deal for you in the long run.

  • From what I understand it doesn't really have much to do with your previous diet, etc. It can affect anyone. So don't beat yourself up about it. From my birth month board I know there are tons of ladies who are able to manage it just fine and have healthy beautiful babies at the end. Hang in there.
