Cloth Diaper Mom's Come In

So for all you who cloth diaper, because I know there is a few of you on the board.

Which ones do you use?

What did you prefer for when baby was little?

Did you start Cloth Diapering from day one?

Any other advice or suggestions are welcome. I have a friend who CD'd and I can use hers. She said they are either Kushies or Bumpkins. I haven't seen them yet, but I'm looking at all my other options right now.

Re: Cloth Diaper Mom's Come In

  • I'm not CDing as a newborn because you need a whole separate set of diapers in newborn size. Throughout my pregnancy I did stock up on a bunch of different "one size fits all" diapers as they came up on sale and had good reviews, so we will start by trying those out and seeing what works.

  • i used cloth on e when he was a newborn. it does stink because you need to have a whole different stash because one size diapers won't fit a newborn (even if they say they do). kissaluvs size 0 were great for a fitted but they need a cover. they are bulky but do fit a newborn great. tots bots tiny fits are amazing they are and all in one but have a flap so they dry faster. they are for 5-12 pounds. they are also pretty trim because they are designed just for that little bum.

now we use fitteds with no cover or fleece pants at home or at like my moms. but when we are out we use all in 2's. we LOVE softbums echo's and omni's. they are a great all in 2 and really fit well. they adjust by toggles on the elastic not snaps so they have a million different size settings (not just 3).the echo's are great but omni's are a tad bigger son on Eli they fit better. for fitteds we love goodmama's but they are spendy (even used). little fancy pants are another one of our favorites and are cheaper but fit great and hold lots of pee. we just started using rainbow monster fitteds which may be my new favorites.

oh and little fancy pants and goodmama both make newborn fitteds too.

  • I (obviously) don't have kids but the cloth diapers has deffinantly caught my interest. May I *highly* recommend the blogs; Younghouselove.com and Heatherdriveblog.com. These are two of my all time favorite blogs as it is and they both have done/are doing cloth diapering. BOTH blogs go over the pro's, the cons and the cost. What's really amazing is that they both bought their inital set when they had their babies and haven't had to buy more. They did use disposables when they were too tiny to fit in the others and one uses them when traveling but that's it.

The other great thing about these blogs is they both have a TON of commentors so you can also see what other people have responded with.

It's worth a look over there.

  • Right now we use all pockets (the all in ones were great when A was in daycare, and I just never got into the covers/fitted style). Our brands are: Fuzzi Buns, BumGenius, Charlie Banana, Rumparooz, GroVia (which are cut small), Babykicks and Kawaii for Overnights. On order we currently have a few Oh Katy, Fuzzi Buns and Charlie Bananas-we had to get rid of our aplix and replace them with snaps.

We didn't start with Anders until he was 8 months, but we will be starting with 2.0 sooner. I have a few newborn Grovias which are teeny tiny and XS fuzzi Buns to mix in with disposable 7th generation diapers. You do need to buy a completly seperate set for newborn stages, which isn't a bad investment if you are planning on a few kids. We chose not to (A friend gave me the dozen we have since she opted not to CD) invest in it because this is our last kiddo.

For newborn, I know the GroVia ones are pretty popular, as are Lil' Joeys. I have a friend who loves kushies, but I don't know anyone using Bumkins right now.

You can get great deals on EBay and Craigslist for CD's and they have a pretty good resale rate, so don't hesitate to try a bunch out! Certian styles fit Anders better than others depending on how his body was growing. I would recommend snaps (they hold up better than aplix, IMO) and researching what style would fit your lifestyle best. I love pockets-dry quickly, lots of options for stuffing, etc...and wasn't a fan of prefolds or fitteds. AIO's are a great option, but most are sized, thus making your stash bigger, however they are super easy to use!

Just an fyi, if you are goig with used diapers, ask if they have been stripped, any ointment has been used, or if they have been treated for yeast. When I have gotten used diapers I have always stripped them and done a sterile wash before use. Just a suggestion...
