SLR ladies

What is your go to lens for parties? Lots of people, running kids, not always being able to be as close to the "good shots" as you would like with the fixed lens?

I'm hoping to invest in a good one in the spring and would love some recs to start researching.

Re: SLR ladies

  • I need a different one too!  I learned with Winston I need something faster.  I'm thinking about a prime lens.  I have a zoom, but the crispness of the photos isn't as I would like.  I have a 50mm I use for my food photography, but it's not wide enough for group photos, etc.  I'm thinking about a 35mm.

  • I love my Tamron 28-75 with a 2.8 aperture. It's low enough to let in a decent amount of light if you're indoors and has a wide enough end for indoor shots with a decent zoom for the closer ones. It's about $500 but it NEVER leaves my camera.

No experience with this one yet, but it will definitely be my next purchase.  I usually use my 50mm, but in a tight spot, it is, well... tight.  If you want a prime to use for these types of locations, I'd go with the 35mm.

This is the one I was looking at just before I clicked back here. Nice to see that you like it too.
