spiders

Our house and even the nearby apt where we used to  live have spiders - nothing that really freaked me out, I actually don't mind spiders as much as the other bugs we have to deal with in FL.  It's just occasionally, I would see a spider.

Anyway, with a baby in the nursery and on the floor I now feel the need to kill each spider I come across, which have been several since he was born. Anyone have ideas on a spider repellent? Are there any natural remedies?

Re: spiders

  • We have a bug company come every 3 months, if we see even the tiniest critter inside they'll come between the scheduled time at no additional charge.  I don't do spiders at all.
  • I am such a freak about spiders.

We use the outdoor repellent around our house, but I can't really say how well it works or not. I assume it works to some degree.

We also put spider traps out in our hosue (this brand http://www.squidoo.com/spider-traps). We put one in the corner of our bedroom, which does a pretty good job. I insisted after I saw a GIANT spider waltzing across our bedroom floor. I don't look inside them--my husband changes them out every few months or more. I think they do a good job, at least for our room, since we rarely find spiders in our bedroom and he claims that the traps are always full of spiders when he changes them out (which also creeps me out!). He also puts some in our basement.

Other than that, since I am so ridiculously afraid of spiders, I always keep a big can of Black Flag on hand. I know some people don't like using things like that because they are so chemically, but it makes me feel safer knowing the spider will undoubtedly be dead after I douse it with it and I don't mind using chemicals (lol). My sister and I call it "Black Death" instead of "Black Flag"!

  • I keep the spiders around this time of year because we somehow get stinkbugs in our home. We can't figure out where they come from but the spiders catch em. I hate stinkbugs. As long as we don't have really creepy spiders I'll let them go.?
  • I'm arachnophobic (almost died from a bite) so no spider can enter our home and live.

I spray every other month around doors, windows foundation, etc.  We bomb inside once a month, and I have cans of killer throughout the house.

I wouldn't be able to sleep if I saw one and didn't kill it.
