How many of you out there have 2nd jobs? I am looking to get one, and I was wondering if you all had any good advice on a 2nd job that wouldn't be too stressful. I currently work as a teller at a credit union, and that job is an 8:30 to 5:30 so I would need something I could work like 6 to 10 a few nights a week just to help loosen things up a bit. Any advice on what might be a good option?
Re: 2nd Jobs?
I have worked a 2nd job for many years. I work in retail. I was able to find somewhere to work with my availability and my requests. I consider myself lucky with that. Some people find retail stressful, but I would prefer to be moving and since I sit all day at work it doesn't bother me much. Plus there is always an option to pick up extra hours, switch shifts.
You can try PT receptionist. Lots of dentists and lawyers and others in the medical field are looking for this (where I am).
If you want to care for kids, others or animals check out Care.com - or a similar site. You may find something there.
I just gave up my second job at a video store...it was easy, stress free except for the manager jamming "sales quotes" down my throat when I didn't really care. It was weekends too and that was the only bummer...it was hard to find "me" time.
A friend of mine just got a second job at a car dealership answering phones three weekdays from 5 to 8pm and every other Saturday from 8 to 6pm...she loves the consistency and says the job is cake.
As much as I don't miss working retail, I'm considering looking for a second job soon too. Try to work in a store that sells things you like. The discounts make the stress more tolerable.
I worked 2 jobs for a while. My second job was at a restaurant. Sometimes it was super busy and stressful and other times it was very slow and easy.
I was also going to suggest SitterCity and Care.com like the PP's mentioned. I see ads on Indeed.com for these 2 sites all the time for occasional babysitting or pet watching.
At the moment I have 2 jobs. Full time 9-5 and then I'm a Christian Education Coordinator, and that's 15 hours a week with lesson planning and teaching and then once a month is staff meetings and a board meeting.
Do you have any drugstores that are open 24 hours around you? My mom worked the register a couple hours after her primary job for extra cash.
I also have a friend who works at Target at nights restocking shelves.
Good luck to you!

I've had a 2nd job for about 10 years, I work security/guest services at Gillette Stadium. Sports arenas are great part time jobs to have as the schedule comes out far in advance and usually there is always something going on during the weekends. It works out well with my full time job...
Good Luck!
