Creative Halloween Costumes
Have you ever made a Halloween Costume with just things that you already had?
Please list Halloween costumes that would not require purchase of anything....or maybe just a $5 purchase of some props....but can be majorly made from things you have at home. And make it PG.
One year I was pippy-longstocking, which I did from all things I had at home....but I feel like kids have no idea what that is...I am trying to think of a costume that I could wear to school, an elementary school.....but have it be mostly free....since we are on a single income.
GO!
Re: Creative Halloween Costumes
i was patrick...h has had his spongebob costume for at least 8 years (and wears it almost every year).
i already had matching pink sweats and hoodie..i bought about 1/2 yd of purple, and two yd of green fabric and made shorts (they don't have to fit perfectly). i made eyeballs out of paper and sharpie.

Are there any TV/Movie characters that you&H could have the clothes for and sort of look like? W & I have done that and if you own the right close it can be cheap. Mulder and Scully was just us in dark suits, mag-lites, fake FBI badges, and a 90s-era cell phone.
1st year anniversary in Victoria with a killer whale topiary!
I was chlorophyll once and wore all green. I made a painted paper sun that i attached to a headband. I bought green nail polish, but that's it.
Dh was Harry Potter; no purchases required.
This year i'm dressing as Joan Holloway/Harris, and all i'm buying for that is "gold" earrings and bracelet, and i bought a $7 wig (new) from goodwill. I had the rest.
One year when dh was working and i didn't have a party to go to i just handed out treats. That year i dressed as a yoga instructor (yoga pants, tank top, sweatshirt and yoga mat in bag). That would be cheap and comfy
ETA: I didn't see the pregnancy-related portion of the request... the yoga one would still work. You could be pregnant Herminone or Ginny, from the gap in the end of the series.
Best sound ever: baby's heartbeat! (Heard @ 10w1d)
A couple years ago, DH was "Professor Chaos" (a South Park character...sort of). No purchases necessary...just a blanket worn as a cape, and some tin foil to make the rest of it:

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain."
This one is cute for raining cats and dogs. If you don't have stuffed animals, you could cut them out of construction paper and tape them to your umbrella. It would be cute if you had some paper cats and dogs hanging off of the edge, too.

Oh, well, my weird "easy" costume wouldn't be appropriate for school, even though it was PG. I was "The Road to Hell Paved With Good Intentions." (Yes, I love abstract!) We took some scrap fabric we had around the house and cut it into rough cobblestones, Took some red and orange puffy paint and wrote platitutdes to them and safety pinned to long-sleeved black shirt and leggings (used some red beads we had hanging around to hid the silver of the pin). Took a metal hanger and bent it to a U-shape, with the straight ends sticking at 90 degrees, and made a construction paper street sign "Hell Rd". and ta-da, hairband
One friend went as Elton John's music...she printed out a huge selection of lyrical one-lines, and just safety-pinned (or taped, don't remember) to an all black ensemble.
this is RIDICULOUSLY cute. i will have to start collecting puppies and kitties (for my new baby, of course) so that i can do this next year.

Also, you can go Greek and just use a white sheet as a toga! I was a goddess last year and it was pretty darn inexpensive.
I think I am going to be a Viking this year. I usually always piece my costumes together from things I already have and accessories. I've done this with a witch and a pirate and one year in collage I was Daisy Duke.... yeah.
I pretty much can't stand those pre-packaged costumes. They are so expensive and never fit right.
Good luck!!

The cheapest costumes I've done are: 80's chick, Country Bumpkin (although I did have to buy denim overalls for that, but I only spent $10 on a pair from Value Village), and this year I'm going as a Gypsy.
The winner for cheapest would probably be H - he went as the Charlie Brown ghost the first Halloween we were together. He just took a white old bedsheet and cut a ton of random holes all over. It worked great - he had a hole to drink his bottled beer out of!
Although then he also had people coming up to him all night and poking their fingers in random holes.

My two easiest go to costumes are a laundry basket and the floor of a movie theatre.
Laundry basket - cut a hole in the bottom of the basket and put on over your head.. you can use suspenders to help hold it in place... I wore mis-matched clothes, tied my hair up in a sock and had random towels, etc. in my basket.
Floor of a movie theatre - Dress in black. Cut out neck and arm holes in a black trash bag and glue a crap ton of candy wrappers, popcorn, soda cans, old movie tickets, etc. to the bag.
My cheapest costume was from last year. I was Sookie Stackhouse from True Blood, since I was blonde last year. I wore my "Sookie" costume to work and Halloween parties. It was black pants (for work) and black shorts (for parties) with tennis shoes and a plain white t-shirt with a Merlotte's logo pinned to my shirt. I printed the Merlotte's logo on some cardstock and cut it out.
A True Blood character is probably not appropriate for an elementary school though...
