Giant cupcake.. anyone make one?
So I bought the wilton giant cupcake pan and tried to make one yesterday. I am planning to make one for each girl for her birthday. Anyway, it was an utter disaster! Neither side was filled enough and then the "cupcake top" side baked quicker so was over-cooked! I should have taken a picture cause it was horrendous! Has anyone made one before? Any tips? I now know I need to make two boxes of cake mix and I am thinking about cooking one side and then cooking the other. Any help would be great!!
Re: Giant cupcake.. anyone make one?
I've made them before using that pan. Most recently did it for Nora's cake smash pics for her first birthday shoot.
Your biggest problem was probably not using enough cake mix--if you fill the sides properly, it should bake up fine. I've always baked both sides at the same time, too.
You likely won't need all of the cake mix (two boxes), by the way--it's important not to overfill them, too!

I made one of those for Kodi's first b-day. I poured batter in the cupcake bottom part first, cooked for something like 5-10 minutes, then took it out and added batter to the cupcake top and cooked both sides for the remainder of the time. That should help so the top part doesn't get overcooked.
Also, I made a cupcake "liner" out of melted candies. Here is the blog that I got the directions from. http://ohsugarcakes.blogspot.com/2009/03/candy-liner-for-giant-cupcake.html (sorry I can't make it linky on a mac). My first attempt at making the liner didn't work because I didn't make the candy layer thick enough. The second time, the candy layer was much thicker so it just slid right out of the pan once it hardened.
