So DH and I are thinking of names. A while ago we thought of the name Eliza-Maria. Now I normally don't care much for hyphenated names, but I found this one really feminine and pretty sounding. Elizabeth is my mom's name and Marie-Elena is his mom's name, so it would be a nice way to honor both of our families. If we went with this, would we still use a middle name? I am unsure, DH says yes, there has to be a middle name. I normally feel the same way and find it odd when someone has no middle name, but with the hyphen I'm not sure. Honest opinions please....[Poll]
Re: Hyphenated names poll
That is part of the problem that I have with Eliza-Marie. I love it together, but I don't want people thinking her name is Eliza and calling her that. Also, I'm not sure I want to give her a name that people could pronounce wrong (long I sound vs. short, like I want).
She will get a confirmation name eventually too. That is a lot of names LoL. But most people never do anything with their confirmation name.
I know what you mean. I did get tired very quickly of correcting people like the doctors office about her name. I write it out on EVERYTHING the way her name is and leave the middle name part blank people still call her amberlynn. I've gotten some slack over the hyphen but I had my heart set on her name being the way it is so I went with it. We went through a ton of other names and nothing really stuck out to me as much as i loved her name. I will tell you i have a friend who has a hyphen and she did end up only going by Katy and not Katy-Ann. I'm waiting for when she goes into school how that is going to work out with my DD name.
I should have voted SS. I don't think everyone NEEDS a MN, but it's nice. And you have to remember that no one will be pronouncing the hyphen in the name, so it'll just sound like one name (or two names, if they are said slow enough.) I feel like MN complete a name.
That being said, my girls have four names altogether, since they have two last names (but are not hyphenated).
P.S. Harry S. Truman didn't have a MN. He just had an initial, so maybe that is an option, too.
