Bend, OR?
So for DH's birthday in February I started to plan a surprise trip to Whistler. We went there a few years ago and had a great time. The downside is concern about what we would do with our dog. The hotel I booked allows pets, however I know most hotels don't allow you to LEAVE your pet in the room unattended (he is crate trained) and while I know ours doesn't bark much even when in his crate at home, I do worry that he might do so in a hotel any time someone in an adjacent room or the hallway makes some sort of noise.
A friend suggested Mt. Bachelor which I've never been to and H hasn't been to in 15-20 years. We would stay in a vacation rental house (that allows pets) so I wouldn't be as concerned about Kirby making noise. However, I've never been to Bend and it's been a LONG time since H has been. Any insights/recommendations? Is there some things to do? How does it compare with Whistler?

Hmm... I've only been in the Summer. I don't know how it would compare to Whistler as far as the village and all that goes. I know that there are plenty of pet-friendly condo/house rentals though. We were at Sun River for 4th of July weekend this year and stayed in a house that had no problem with our 2 big pups.
Another suggestion for a ski vacay though is Sun Peaks up near Kamloops BC. The skiing is great - they actually have 3 different mountains with lots of long runs (they have one called 5-mile) and lots of varying difficulty. The village is also really nice and there are lots of great places to eat. I am not sure what the exchange rate is looking like these days, but you might get more for your money going to Canada.
