I posted before about having to PCS twice this next year and how H and I were trying to avoid it at all costs without losing housing here. H was not able to get it switched to a TDY (which was our first choice) but he did convince his command to talk to housing to let me stay here while he's gone. I'm a little confused about the specifics, but H said I have to get a general POA and that someone from his command will act as my sponsor while he's gone.
Does that sound right? He's not leaving for another 5 months or so, but I have a feeling the next few months will fly by and I want to have a general idea of what's going on.

Re: PCS question
I don't know enough about this process to comment specifically on your situation, but I recommend getting copies of all documents from his command and the housing office dealing this arrangement. You might also want to go to the legal office and make sure everything is being handled appropriately.
A power of attorney is definitely a good idea, but you may want to consider special powers of attorney in addition to the general power of attorney. The legal office can explain the differences and make recommendations for you two.
A general POA will work for a lot of things that you could deal with off post (ie bank accounts) but make sure you also get specific POAs for any office on post you may need to deal with. For some insane reason, they won't accept the general POA most times even if you and your H drafted/notarized it at JAG :P who knows why...a few that I would get are finance, housing, and one that you can take with you if you lose your ID so that you can get a new one without your H there with you. I'm sure there are a bunch of other ones you could get, but those are the major things as far as POA.
As far as sponsorship, your H is your sponsor for DEERS. You have to be command sponsored to live on any post or for the military to pay to move you/your things as well as your H's during a PCS. If you are on accompanied orders with him, I believe that constitutes command sponsorship, so now that he will PCS without you for a while, he probably has to get you command sponsorship so you can stay on post in housing while he is PCS'd to another location.
Best of luck!
I have no experience with this but just reading that line seemed sketchy to me. Why would someone else need to be your sponsor?
That makes sense about the command sponsorship thing. I know that H has to write a couple letters to get this all to work, but it's confusing to me. We'll make sure to get the general POA as well as the specific ones you mentioned
