Decor help

I want to repaint my bathroom.  I would LOVE to paint it bright yellow with grey/black/white accents.  Then I wanted to paint the trim white.  Here's the thing that is stopping me - our counter tops & tub is cream. Do you think if I painted the trim white it would clash with the cream?

Re: Decor help

  • Our countertop, (similar to yours) toilet, mirror, and light is white. I just repainted the bathroom and it has cream tile around the tub. I painted the trim cream and the walls blue. It looks fine and I actually like that it isn't all "blue and white". I think you will be fine. I even have a picture hanging that is in a white frame and it matches fine.
  • Are you thinking a "white" white for the trim or a softer off white? We have standard "white" (very bright white) on our ceilings and our crown molding is an off white (I think it's called snow storm or something like that...it's a light cream) and you can totally tell the difference. It looks pretty nice!

Also, is the rest of the trim painted white or will it be just in the bathroom?

  • I think you should paint the walls gray, white trim and then OD on yellow accents.  (Might as well paint a Hawkeye in there while you're at it.)

I think, especially with that small of a room, that yellow walls would be overwhelming.  Unfortunately, this advice comes from personal experience; I "designed" my bathroom in high-school with yellow walls and navy accents. . . you know, to go with my "sun, moon & stars" theme.  Haaa!

  • I would agree with cracky, a bold yellow might be to much and not a good background color to apply makeup in. Plus, if you went with a grey then you could constantly change your pop color, with seasons, what's in, etc. Teals, purples, yellows, reds. Any of it would work without having to redo everything.
  • I hate this bathroom, so give me some more suggestions!!
  • I don't think the cream and white will be a big deal.  I would also go with grey walls so you could switch things out easily enough.  Here's a pic I found with the colors you mentioned. bathrooms - bathroom grey gray yellow black My graduated grey bathroom. From Nichole @ Parlour Home
  • Love the gray wall look.  Then you could do green, yellow, or even purple accents.

We are doing gray in the nursery but are adding in plum and teal.  I think it would give you the most options in the end since it's a neutral without being boring.
