been awhile and a question

Hello all, I tried to keep up but work has been crazy with all the hail.

I'm going for an HSG on Tuesday...how bad do they hurt?

Also, can anyone tell me their experiences with clomid..?? It's still not a for sure that I'm going to be taking anything, I have to see a medical oncologist and a risk specialist to see what my risk of cancer coming back is. This is all a whirlwind...an I'm not exactly sure what to do for my next steps I just know I want a baby. :-

Re: been awhile and a question

  • My hsg sucked. I pretty much passed out afterwards but knowing my uterus's history that was sort of expected. Take the recommended motrin or whatever they say ahead of time and I would take someone with you, they can't be in the room I think during it but at least for support before and after. I wished I had taken dh but he worked overnights at the time and needed his sleep.

Clomid for me did not work but with my situation I should have never have been on it but I know tons of people who it works great for. AND everyone responds differently also much of it depends on the dose. Some of us go crazy and some don't notice a difference. Just go with what your doc says and good luck!

  • I was the opposite of E, my HSG was no big deal. I had a tiny bit of spotting and some mild cramping later that day. I took some Motrin prior and hung out on the couch afterwards. DH did not come with me, but had there been bad news I would have liked to have had him there with me. Clomid + IUI worked for us. I did low dose and wasn't bsc on it. Good luck, I hope you get some good news!

  • Oh so I'll get the new right away?

  • My OB did the HSG himself, so I knew results right away.

    ditto this.

  • My HSG wasn't too bad, I did take Mortin prior. I knew right away, and from the screen you can almost tell yourself.  My Doctor did mine.

I did a lot of Clomid and it isn't so bad.  There are some mood swings involved, just be aware of them and Good Luck.

  • Mine did not hurt bad at all.... I was so hyped up about it after reading all of this stuff on the internet.    I also got results right away.

Tip -  bring some panty liners  or pad with you.

  • My HSG wasn't too bad from what I can recall.  Definitely take the Motrin beforehand, it really helps.  Good luck!

  • My HSG was the worst pain I've ever experienced.  So it definitely runs the gamut, but I almost fainted during, I was very woozy and lightheaded from the pain.  And mine was clear, so just be prepared for the worst and hopefully it won't hurt like most people! : )

I am not a fan of Clomid just because I had 2 Clomid miscarriages and used it for 4 rounds.  But I know everyone responds differently and I know people who have taken it with no side effects and no issues with miscarriages.  It's the cheapest thing to try first if it is safe for your situation.

Good luck with your journey!  It's an emotional one!

  • I hated my HSG. (Although, it wasn't as painful as my IUD.) It's a strange pain. It hurts in a place inside that you've probably never felt pain before, and you can't wince against it.  If that makes sense. I had mine done at UNMC, and they told me the results right away.  They told me everything they were doing as it was happening, and I just watched the screen.  Very interesting.

As for Clomid, I took 6 rounds at 25-100mg.  Thankfully, I never had side-effects.  Although, that's probably because I never had "effects".  Ha.  It did nothing for me. Good thing it was easy and didn't cost a ton because then I'd be really mad about it.

    GOOD LUCK!!

  • I have no experience to share with you but I wanted to say good luck. One thing I do is close my eyes and try to remember all the choreography to a particular song I did back in high school when I am in an uncomfortable situation. (in the stirrups)  I have forgotten some of it (it was my sophomore year, so 1999) so I really have to think about it. It takes a lot of the uncomfortableness away for me. I know you can't do pain meds and you probably have your own way of dealing, but that's just what I do. How have you been otherwise? Doing well I hope.

  • The RE did mine. It hurt, but it wasn't horrible. I've heard if you have a blockage, it will hurt more... DH had to work, so a friend came with me. They did let her come in with me for support and she held my hand and reminded me to breath when it started to hurt! I had the results right away - you can see the screen, which was actually kind of cool!

I had 2 rounds of Clomid out of the 5 IUIs we did, and hated the side effects! We ended up with injectibles (surprisingly less side effects than the clomid!) and IUI to get B...

  • Thanks everyone, it's been a struggle emotion wise but I know that I still don't know for sure if something is wrong and there are a lot of people out there going through worse. It's frustrating that my cancer gets thrown into everything, and sil just announced a month ago they are expecting. Just trying to keep the faith an stay positive, hoping if anything is wrong there will be some treatment that is safe. Other than all that stress I've been doing great, it's been one heck of a year :D

  • Mine felt like really bad cramping and come to think of it, I dont' know if I took anything before hand.

My DH came in but my OB who did it, knew of his profession and so she let him come in.

We did clomid but I have to wonder really if the combination of 1 round of clomid and the hsg maybe blowing out any small blocks in the fallopian tubes also had something to do with it.

I did one round of clomid and we got pregnant.  My dose was the smallest does.

    Best of luck to you.

  • clomid did jackshit for me, besides turn me into a raging beyotch.
