DH and I are looking for somewhere new to go tonight as an early anniversary dinner. We are open to all types of food, price ranges, and locations (Columbia, Ellicott City, Annapolis, Baltimore, etc). My only request is not a steakhouse.
It doesn't have to be fancy, we just want good food! Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA!

Re: Favorite Restaurants
I love Paladar in Annapolis and Brio is a close second. Since you said not a steakhouse, you just knocked out the remainder of my suggestions. Haha.
Although, we like Severn Inn near the Naval Academy.
We love Paladar. We were running errands yesterday and went there for Happy Hour. I love that they have Sunday Happy Hour!
yummm - Ranazul.
I like Victoria Gastropub too, but they're a little overimpressed w/ themselves.
DH loves their fish tacos and beef tacos from the HH menu. He's had the lamb stew and shrimp creole and enjoyed them both. I love the chile relleno and salads. Their guac served with plantain chips is awesome too. For drinks, the mango margarita or Dark & Stormy are my favorites. Give it another try at HH.
The first time we went with a group of people and I was the only one who liked my food. Everyone else wished they got what I got. I know a lot of other people who love it but then I know a few people who won't go there again (one of them found plastic in their food the last time they went). I think it's just hit or miss depending on what you order.
For Annapolis restaurants I like Aqua Terra, O'Leary's, McGarvey's, Carpaccio, Boatyard, Cafe Normandie, El Toro Bravo, Main Ingredient, Nando's Peri Peri, Grump's, Punks and Zoe's Kitchen. I know you said no steakhouses but it's worth a trip to Stoney River for the rolls alone- you could easily make a meal on them and one of their great salads.
RE: Paladar
Yeah, I think Happy Hour is probably the way to go. I got Ropa Vieja and it was really gross, looked like baby food. I can't remember what my Mom got but she didn't really like hers either.
Also, there was a bug crawling up the window by our seats which grossed us out too. (I am sure all restaurants have bugs, I just don't like seeing them while I am eating).
DE IVF #1= 04/11 - BFP
This, times 10000. I hate that place because of how much they love themselves. Plus, I think the food and drinks are pretty overpriced.
I like Ranazul as well.
Azul 17 has fantastic authentic Mexican food.
I also like Aida Bistro a lot, it's always on the Baltimore's Best list for restaurants.
DH and I are currently obsessed with Cinghiale in Harbor East and are going there for his birthday next week - great wine list and amazing food.
We've been 2x and DH loved it and everyone else raves about it; I didn't hate it, but eh, I've never been that impressed. Their menu always seems too small and there are always weird meats and I'm always afraid I'm going to get sweet breads or something.
I have gone to Victorias Gastro Pub with high expectations because everyone raves about it and I really wasn't all that impressed. The food was just ok but I thought it was a little pricey and I don't get why it gets so crowded in there.. it really isnt that great.
We LOVE Azul 17 and our newest (thanks Tyler) is Asian Fusion, both in Columbia. And of course there is always the Melting Pot
