  • We max out at 3 weeks/15 days.
    With 9 years in, I am at 14 days, next year I will meet the max.

    And it sucks. Only 5 holidays, no PTO time either... I'm going to start faking sick more often on days I want off.

  • I am a teacher--we don't really get paid vacation time.  I know people think we get paid summers--The summer is off--but it is just our salary for the 9 months of work is spread over 12 months.

  • Technically I get no vacation or PTO.  However, I am adminstration/faculty so it's more of a just don't abuse days off and we don't care kinda thing.  I take maybe 4 weeks off a year (which isn't a lot considering most faculty get 4 weeks at Christmas alone).

     

    However, I have never NOT worked on my "vacation," so I don't think that it counts.

    ETA: I have a 12 month contract, so I don't get summers off, but I do get paid extra to work in the summer.

    I hear what you are saying--I think more of during the school year it is hard to even take a sick day even though we have "personal leave" days you can be called on to prove that you were sick and not taking a day off to run errands or sit at home.

    And most of the summer I am taking classes and going to meetings--unpaid to prepare for the next year,

  • Currently, I get three weeks + 2 floating holidays, which are essentially extra vacation days since we can take them whenever we'd like.

    We get five paid sick days per year, too, which I'm grateful for now that we have Nora. Those five days are gone quickly--I wish there were more (we had nine paid sick days per year at my old job, and they carried over, too--by the time I left, I had like 40 sick days saved up!).

  • I get 25 days and it carries over from year to year with our max at 60 days (but that is never going to happen).

    That includes vacation, sick time, and holidays. We're not expected to come in for Christmas for example, but I still have to use 8 hours of PTO to take that day off with pay every year.

  • I get 15 days a year and they are only supposed to be used for sick/unavoidable absences.  But we can accumulate them forever and then when you retire you can get paid for like 120 of them (if you have so many).

    DH gets 15 vacation days, 5 sick days, 3 personal days, and 3 family care days.  Once he's been there for 10 years he gets 20 vacation days. 

  • I get 25 days, which count for vacation, sick, and personal. 

    Then, we also get 12 paid holidays.

    Not a bad deal.

    10 hours PTO a month=15 days a year
    8 Hours sick a month=12 sick days a year.

    All of this increases with your time employed. After 5 years it becomes 14 hours a month and so on.

    You can save it all and use up to 6 months of it to get paid if you retire.

You can roll over max up to 45 personal days a year, and you can build up to 180 sick days. We also have 13 holidays each year. After 10 years of service you earn an extra personal day/year until you max out at 30 days/year. Of course, you're never allowed to take more than 30 days in a calendar year (excepting FMLA etc.). You can also count so many sick/personal days towards retirement at the end.

  • Let me preface this by saying - hear me out before you start feeling green.

    We get 4.5 weeks of vacation/year.  We earn it at a rate of 3.5 hour/week - so in January you aren't gifted 4.5 weeks.  We can roll over a good amount (don't recall how much - but all of the amount earned in at least 1.5 years. Maybe 2 years).

    That 3.5 hours/week includes all of our sick time, every holiday, and whatever vacation you may want to take.  So let's say 7 standard holidays at an average of 9 hours/holiday (those are the hours we work, unless the holiday falls on a Friday).  That's 63 hours.

    Oh, you're sick?  PTO.  Oh, you're kid is sick?  PTO.  Now you want to go on vacation?  PTO.  You want to get paid for the time you take off work to have a child to bridge you to STD? PTO. 

    You can choose to just not get paid for holidays as long as you have 30 hours of paid time in a week to cover the cost of benefits. 

    ETA: Our office also does not ever close for inclimate weather.  So if you are at home with 8" of snow and absolutely no way to get out of your driveway or neighborhood... PTO for every day that you are stuck at your house.  Sorry, Charlie. :)

    My last job we only got 6.5 hours per pay period so this job definitely gives more time than my last.  I just wish we got some paid holidays rather than having to use our PTO.

  • Well you probably think I suck too. But if it makes you feel any better I get 2 months for summer, not 3. Usually I do have a few training sessions and classes to attend during that time too, but no it's not every day or even every week.

    We get an additional 15 days during the year, some personal, some sick, some family illness to use but we have to have "proof" for our absences. So if I use a family illness day for Molly, I need a note from her doctor when I miss work. If I use more than 4 days in a year without a note, I get a nasty letter from the board in my file and my principal has to conference with me about it. So they essentially give us days but don't want us to use them. They do carry over year to year, but I'm back at square one because I had to use mine for maternity leave.

    Agree. I will say that the sick time bothers me too. Allowing people to choose to take sick time or vacation with the same hours is not the smartest move. You can guarantee that if I'm sick and don't have much time I'll probably be here if I have an upcoming vacation planned. We're a health company for pete's sake. Shouldn't we be smarter about this?

  • You think I suck - which I'm sure comes as no surprise.  I've been there long enough to earn 25 days/year vacation time and then we have 11-14 paid holidays (depends on when things like Christmas fall, sometimes we get more days depending on when in the week it is).  We also have unlimited sick days (but you have to have a note if more than 3 days in a row, I think, and you clearly have to be mindful about them if you abuse it's noticed).  We can also take time off, paid, for Doctor appts, including ones for our kids.

    Only the earned vacation carries (25 days for me) and we can only bank 30 at a time.  I have 30 in there now so I don't earn any more until I use some!

    This is one reason I'm clearly hoping to stay there forever.

    ETA: Today, interestingly, isn't a paid holiday.  I am taking a vacation day b/c Janie's school is closed!

  • I get 17 days per year (PTO) and 9 additional holidays. No sick time...we have to use PTO for that. I can't complain - it usually ends up being a decent amount of vacation. However, we can only carry over 5 days each year, so it's a use it or lose it type deal! And sometimes it's hard to use it. We also don't get paid out for it if we leave and have any left, which is super unfair.

    I get all of the federal holidays off, about a week at Christmas, a week in February, a week in April, and usually about 6-7 weeks during the summer. As Amy said, though, all of that is unpaid. I get paid for the 196 days I work during the year. Getting time off is fabulous, but please don't tell me I get a ton of paid vacations because that just pisses me off. ;)

    My husband woke up this morning complaining about how we shouldn't have to go to work today because it was Columbus Day.  I guess when he was government he was federal - I never really thought about the distinction. 

     

  • I'm curious the way teachers salaries work. Some of my friends make about what I would expect a teacher to make and similar to what I make. Some school systems have the option to get paid that amount for 12 months or to get it paid during the 9 'working' months (b/c I know you guys do a lot during the Summer too). One of my friends chooses the 9 months, so I mean she doesn't get paid vacations technically, but I guess I wouldn't either if I chose to spread my salary over the time that I'm actually working. Isn't it basically the same thing as a normal person under salary especially if it was spread over 12 months?

    I'm really not trying to start a teacher war lol. I'm just genuinely curious.

    My salary is determined by a daily rate, so I make about $220/day multiplied by 196 working days and that's my salary. Then, it gets spread over 26 pay periods, so I get paid every two weeks year round. If I worked more days, my salary would be more and if I worked less days, it'd be less because it's based on a daily rate.

  • Since I went part time I get nothing. When I was full time I had 10 vacation days, 3 sick days and 10 holidays. That's it, no matter how long I was there.
