on a federal holiday! No traffic, very few calls or emails, it's nice and quiet in the office...

And LO is teething and snuffly and was up all night last night, so it's nice not to need my brain working!

I'm a fed working a fed holiday and I love love love it! Today's even my first day back from vacation so its a nice way to ease my way into the work week.

I'm just glad to not be downtown anymore. Fed holidays = Orange Line track work and shuttle buses between stations (as was the case today). Of course, now that I'm in the 'burbs, I get to deal with everyone shopping at Tysons as I try to commute home from there...! Fingers crossed!

I have to disagree. There is nothing nice about being in the office on a holiday. It actually is a holiday for my office, but not for me apparently.

Beg to also differ since I work in administration in healthcare and we have few holdays. Good thing today is I had big breakfast and played tennis with hubby before I came in to the office this afternoon:). May need to start planning spring vacation!

I agree. If working on federal holidays is so great, you should all work on weekends, too! Big Smile

Yesterday was probably the first time I've taken a vacation day on a holiday (since we don't get them all off and I usually don't mind working on a slow day). But daycare was closed and so I took off and it was a pretty good day. I guess there must be a lot of people working the lesser holidays these days, because it didn't seem like everyone and their mother was out and about when we were. Works for me

I'd rather have the day off, but at least it was a break in dealing with heavy traffic. I got to work in 30 min. :-) Then again, it made this morning's commute so much worse because of the light traffic yesterday. Why an hour + this morning when I can get there in 30 min? :-)

some of us do not get a day off. I don't get Veteran's Day off either. We only get 6 Fed holidays off per year.

Instead of Columbus Day I get the day after Thanksgiving (and this year we're also getting the day before Thanksgiving - score!). It doesn't really matter anyway. Even though I was on maternity leave for 15 weeks in the spring, I have crazy amounts of leave built up already.
