Disneyland dining options

We're leaving for Disneyland in two weeks, and I need to figure out what the heck to do about dining.  Is it worth it to do the meal plans?  We'll be there for three days and are staying on property at the Disneyland Hotel.  I have a great guide book for Disney, but unless I'm missing something, it says NOTHING about dining plans.  I was surprised.

I think we should do it, especially since Charlotte will be with us (read: not going to be sitting and having a luxurious dining experience), except for maybe one dinner out with just Chris and me while my mom watches Char.

Thanks!

Re: Disneyland dining options

  • There are TONS of options within walking distance to the park, it isn't like Disneyworld.  The food at DL is awesome, I really liked it, especially the soups in sourdough breadbowls.  I wouldn't bother with a meal plan though.

  • For sit down we did Blue Bayou, it is inside the Pirates of Caribbean ride and is a really cool dining experience. In California adventure, we did the Princess character dining at Ariel's Grotto, good princess action and the food was not a buffet (plus for me over WDW.)

For counter service, I loved the Mahi Mahi sandwich in Tomorrowland and the Mahi Mahi fish tacos at the counter service place in Frontierland.  I also ate the soup in bread bowls at least 4 times, it is served in a few places in Critter Country and Orleans Square.  DH and F liked the corn dogs on Main Street, but the line was crazy long.

I agree with all of this.  We did not get to do the Blue Bayou but saw it when we were on the ride. It looked really neat (like you were dining at night outside on the bayou).  Ariel's Grotto was a lot of fun and food was good.

  • Thanks, ladies!  We were hesitant to do the dining options and DH kept saying "let's just pay cash!", so that seals it :)  I appreciate it!

  • This page lists all the prices. You can see if the DP plan would work in your favor http://allears.net/dlr/din/dining.htm

  • we are doing the dining plan, and not looking back, and not regretting it!

we did it last time and i absolutely loved not having to keep up with how much we were spending.  this time around, it'll also be nice because the kids can just kind of get whatever they want, and we don't have to mess with anything.

  • We have done Disney (WDW, however) 3 times....2 with the dining plan and once without. In our personal experience, we've concluded that the dining plan isn't really a cost-savings because, though it includes a lot, it's stuff we wouldn't have otherwise bought (like for instance, counter service meals come with desserts). And we always end up with a bunch of credits left over at the end that we have to hurriedly try to use up before leaving. So for us, it's MORE than we need/want, so it just isn't a bargain. We will not do it next time. We like the freedom of buying what we want/need, and exactly when we desire.
