How about a charting question?

Argh, I'm getting a little frustrated.

The past two cycles my chart has not definitively detected ovulation.  Before we were trying, I was doing pretty well detecting ovulation right about mid-cycle.  I haven't been the best with  my temps (varying up to an hour and a half between days, depending on when I go to boot camp) but I've been pretty close to getting my temp taken every day.

Granted, I could have just missed it and potentially be pregnant right now.  Its just aggravating a) not knowing and b) not knowing when to expect my period.  DH hasn't minded just trying every chance we get (haha, sorry TMI) but I'm concerned there could be a problem.

Thoughts?

Re: How about a charting question?

  • I don't know how long you've been trying but besides the normal "it takes time..." advice -- why not adding in OPKs if you want to compare that with your charting for one month.

With all of that said - the month I got pregnant with Janie we did use OPKs, I got a positive test but FF never gave me a positive for ovulation b/c my temps/mucus didn't "match" the positive OPK.

Whatever, that "non"-ovulatory cycle is upstairs sleeping right now.

    So, you never know!

  • I personally believe you get much more reliable temps when you temp vaginally versus orally.  If you haven't tried that, you could give it a go.  And I agree with the OPK's, you can get them at the Dollar Tree. :)

Also, have you been looking for other signs of ovulation or just temps?  (CM, cervical position?)

Just temps, really.  I tried looking for CM but I had real trouble telling the differences.  And frankly, I'm too squeamish to check for cervical position.

Thanks for the tips ladies, I will look into the OPKs!

  • I forget, were you taking hormonal birth control until recently? stopping can really mess with your cycle. I'm assuming not since you were previously charting. I agree that checking CM at first is really intimidating - but is one of the best indicators IMO once you get the hang of it.

I've been off the pill since ... April?  It was early spring when I went off.  I've been charting ever since, in hopes that my cycles would become regular by the time we were TTC (now).

    Thanks for the cm advice!
