Obligatory Introduction Post
Hello,
I'm sure everyone loves reading these posts, so I'll try to keep it short! We've been married for close to two years now and we've been in JAX for a while, but we're trying to branch out and find some more creative things to do here than go see movies =] That's what brought me here really! I've always loved the Nest for the articles, but I thought maybe a local message board would give me some new ideas on fun things in town!
Thanks for reading!
Re: Obligatory Introduction Post
I've been here for almost 4 years this time around, but before I lived in Virginia Beach. (I've gone back and forth between here and VA since I was 3.) Huz is from Omaha, NE. We both just accidentally came here (mainly due to "parental" influence), and now we both go to UNF.
Yes, we're both full time college students, fun! =]
As far as liking JAX, I'd have to say no so far. I've tried, but it just doesn't seem to be my scene. I'm really hoping to get accepted into a Law school somewhere on the West Coast just to start a new adventure, and Huz seems to love the idea also.
Also, I'm not trying to sound whiny about JAX, I just don't know what people around here do for entertainment. For the most part our friends are young and unmarried, and going clubbing every weekend night with them got old the first time we tried that. And you can only chill out at the MOCA so many times =]
Welcome! What are you majoring in at UNF?
Do you have any pets? Jacksonville has an awesome dog park that we take our dogs to regularly in the fall and winter.
Do you like sports? Come see the Jags lose! Tailgating is a fun way to meet new people too.
Do you like eating out? H and I are big fans of trying new local places (and the same places over again that we love).
Do you like happy hours and trivia? You can find all of the places to do trivia in Jacksonville here.
Do you like comedy? The Comedy Zone in Mandarin usually makes for a fun night and they have celebrity comedians reguarly. We're going to see Ralphie May later this month.
The Folio Weekly is a good reference for finding shows and other special events and things to do around town.
Thanks! I'm an English major with intentions of going to law school.
We love eating out! We've just had a harder time finding good local restaurants around here. Any recommendations would be great! =]
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be checking these out!
Cool, I was a poli sci major at UNF awhile ago.
Some of my favorites to eat lunch/dinner...
Biscottis
bb's
The Brick
Orsay
Tacolu
Cruisers
The French Pantry has the craziest hours and they're only open for lunch, but if you can make it there it will be so worth it. Seriously probably the best food I've ever had.
For brunch, try...
Crab Cake Factory
Corner Bistro
Billy's Boathouse
Fun bars to go to...
Caribbee Key
Lemon Bar
The Pier
Ocean 60
Fun happy hours...
Mellow Mushroom
Urban Flats
The Grape
Maggiano's (they have surprisingly awesome happy hour specials)
Seven Bridges
Also have you been down to St. Augustine yet? That's always a fun day trip. If you like day drinking, go to Reggae Sunday at the Conch House!
Cool! I minor in Poli-sci, and I've considered making it my major.
I feel a to- do list coming on =] Our next couple of days off we will definitely be trying these places (some are right around the corner from our apartment
We honeymooned in St. Augustine, but never got a chance to try any of the restaurants people recommended (the whole trip was just disastrous to be honest) but I'm definitely gonna be trying that too!
Thanks!
I was an English major in college. I went to FSU though.
I really wanted to, and still kind of do, transfer to FSU. I've heard much better things about their English program than UNF's. It seems like anytime I mention our English program people cringe!
I don't know much about UNF's English program, but FSU has one of the best in the nation. I couldn't speak more highly about the faculty there.
What?! That's crazy talk.
