Poll: Changing a tire.

Re: Poll: Changing a tire.

  • I had a flat tire last Thursday night.  I felt like a huge moron for not knowing how to change a tire.  I had to call DH to change it for me.

Although the option was, "no bc I might break a nail."  I can't say that's the reason I don't know how, LOL.  I was just never taught.

After the incident last week - Dh has plans to show me how to do it.

  • That is why I have AAA

  • Before my dad would let me start driving on my own I had to actually take a tire off and put it back on in front of him, that way he knew that I would be able to change a tire.

I haven't done it since then.  So while I know how to do it, I'm not sure that I actually would.  But I gues in a pinch I could make it happen.

  • While I know how to, I've never had to put it into practice.  I also have AAA, and if I'm in town the care vans will do it for you.  Love those things!
  • I can't even parallel park.  DON'T JUDGE.

Other than that I am actually a really good driver and I have to say that back-up cameras and rear assist have actually made my parking a million times better.

That is why i live in the West--parallel parking is pretty much not an issue--lots every where--and the few times I have tried--FAIL.

Me either.  I learned for my driving test and haven't attempted it since.

  • I am a master parallel parker (it doesn't hurt that I drive a teeny car). But, I've never changed a tire. I'm sure I could figure it out in a pinch (isn't it in the owner's manual?), but when I first started driving my parents got me AAA, and both times it's been necessary since then, Paul has done it.

This was absolutely my upbringing!  My dad was determined to have my sister & I be as self-sufficient as possible.  They also made us do it in driver's ed.  However, I doubt I could actually get any of the lug nuts off these days & have definitely called AAA or DH instead of doing it myself.  But like you said, in a pinch I guess I could do it.

    Yes Exactly!

  • I know how to change one and my dad even made me practice but I've never been in a situation where I've had to- someone has always come to my rescue. I'll call USAA Roadside service, AAA H, my dad and the list just keeps going.
  • I special snowflaked this. Cause no, I don't know off the top of my head how to change a tire. My Dh or other random family member would have to come do it for me.

BUT...if there happens to be a situation where I am stranded for a long period of time and no one stopped to help or could come out to help me, I could probably google it on my phone and follow the directions. But as said, this is dire circumstances.

  • I have no clue.

When I was 16, a girl friend and I drove to an away soccer game, we're like 45 minutes from home and get a flat tire. Some random rednecks helped us change it, the entire time the guy had a cigarette in his mouth and muttered about how kids should have to know how to change a tire before they can drive ...

    Did I learn after that?

    Nope.

  • My HS boyfriend taught me several basics for dealing with cars when we were dating including changing a flat, how to drive a stick, and how to troubleshoot noises and smells. I guess it's somewhat of a trade-off for my virginity.

    Same here:)

  • No surprise here, I have no idea how to do it.  Couldn't even begin.  AAA all the way!
