What to do with trophies/old accolades & selling online

Hello all!

Quick intro - I'm a long time (former) Knot/(current) Nest lurker with a post every once in a blue moon who is in the [eternal] process de-cluttering and reorganizing.

My current conundrum is, "what do I do with old trophies/awards/accolades?". I have everything from trophies from when I was younger (swim team, cheerleading) to things as recent as this year for work (we get certificates for various things). They're not things I necessarily want to get rid of, but at the same time, I have no idea what to do with them other than let them sit in a box. If I were to get rid of them, what would I do with them? I feel squeamish to be putting my name and/or a prior team name just "out there" in the world. Does anyone even buy used things like that (ie: Goodwill)?

My other question is for anyone who is into buying/selling on eBay, Amazon, Craigslist, Zaarly, etc. I should rephrase: I've got the buying part down, but I am looking for some guidance on the selling part. Is it very complicated or costly to start doing? I don't have a ton of stuff but I have several books, craft items, random electronics chargers, specialty clothing items (bridesmaids dresses, wedding dress, misc. shoes) that I thought might be good to put out there.

Any assistance is appreciated - TIA! :-)

  • If you want to keep the trophies, you could always put them in a box and put them in the corner of the basement or attic where they'll be out of the way.  DH and I have a rubbermaid tote of things we want to keep.  Once the tote gets full if we want to put something else in there we have to take something out.  I also have a few other small boxes in our closet for things like pictures that our kids make.  I have trophies from skating when I was younger, I'd be happy just tossing them in the trash, but that chapter of my life is closed and it was a nice experience but it's over and they don't really mean anything to me (my mom was opposed so I told her if she wants them then she can store them).  You could also take a pic of each one and then get rid of them if you choose.  Is the info on a plate that can be removed or is it engraved in the actual trophy?  I used to hang on to EVERYTHING because everything had sentimental value, but as I've gotten older and have my own house to keep clean, I find that I want as little in my house as possible.
  • A lot of trophy engraving shops will take that sort of thing back. They just toss the nameplate.
