Birthday Party Ideas for 9 yr old?

DD's birthday is coming up next month. I don't want to have another party at the house. We did that last year. Also not crazy about Itz though she's mentioned it. I wanted to go to a local ranch where they host parties and the kids would get rides but she's getting over being afraid of horses due to a scary movie. Confused

  • pottery painting?

we also went to the sugar land ice center this weekend for a party that was fun - you can ice skate, play broomball, ride sleds, or do bumper cars on the ice.

  • hmm..

We live not to far from the aerodome. $19 a person doesn't sound bad for her friends, but she has alot of family here and I can't not invite them or the kids parents. I mean they wouldn't be skating but they would probably expect to be fed.

This is the problem I had with DH last year and why we ended up doing it at the house.

  • You could do one of the big bouncer house places like Monkey Biz:

  • My SD is 9 and she is at the age where birthday parties are really about her friends, not family.  In the past few years she has had a few friends sleep over, or had friends over for a "spa day" where they put on robes and painted nails, etc.  I like painting pottery or even going somewhere for main/pedis.

Something for family would be just having them to the house for cake and ice cream.  Maybe that wouldn't fly in some families, but starting around 9-10 I would want my birthday party to be about me and my friends.

  • A pizza party at a roller skating rink or bowling alley.
  • When DD's got to be that age parties definitely became centered around their friends.

So far we have done roller skating, bowling, ice skating, a cake decorating party (at our house) and Saturday we're doing a mall scavenger hunt.

  • check out the kidsdirectory

    http://www.kidstuffdirectory.com/

they have TONS of ideas, like a "chef" theme wher ethey cook with a group of friends, NASA offeres stuff too.

I found this magazine very inspirational and helpful when searching for bday party ideas and such. you can also pick one up at local consignment stores or gymboree play and music locations.

    hope it helps

  • We usually just take her to a concert or a sporting event or something and let her have 1-2 people spend the night.

This 1,000 times.  O'Dear, if only you could go back in time and talk to my family during my childhood.

ETA - JaxBride did an awesome party for her daughter when she was maybe a bit older than yours where all the friends arrived and she was shooting pics like she was the papparazzi.  They had a red carpet entrance and everything.  They got all glammed up in the house and then when they came out, repeat papparazzi cameras. Jax would have to tell you whether a limo ride was part of it but I almost think it was...

Is 9 too old for Sweet & Sassy?  They have a pink limo as part of their service.

If she is into art, the pottery painting or even a kids party Painting with a Twist could be fun - you might ask if they have discount pricing per person for kids parties.
